Description: Strict 75-mile radius rule. RRTs only; critical care experience is required. Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience and 1 travel contract. 300+ bed experience is required. There will be a hospitalist to respond to codes, but a respiratory therapist will be the first line for intubating patients. Candidates without intubation experience or discomfort with intubation will not be considered. Therapists must be accustomed to high and heavy workloads. Candidates will interview with internal staff, and their profiles will be sent for approval. No second interview will be needed. Therapists will perform an average of 550 minutes of treatments per shift, averaging 15 minutes per treatment. They will manage approximately 13-15 patients per shift. Therapists are required to complete RT duties such as nebulizer treatments, airway management, Vapotherm, BiPAP, CPAP, vents, ABG collection, bedside PFTs, and CPT. In ICU settings, the RT will place A-lines and manage blood gases, intubate, and perform bronchoscopy. Common patient disease processes include COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancers. Assignments are based on units; in ICU, therapists manage up to 4 airways. On average, there are 11 therapists on day shifts and 10-11 on night shifts based on unit needs. Floor therapists need a minimum of one year of experience; critical care therapists require a minimum of 2 years. Candidates must be able to work in an adult ICU and manage vents. They will learn A-lines and must feel confident making suggestions for vent management and reading ABGs to alert critical values. There is no call required for this position. Scrub color is ceil blue, and a ceil blue jacket can be worn. The charting system used is MEDITECH. BSN is not required. This position is located in an acute care setting. Shifts start between 6:45 AM and 6:45 PM; therapists can clock in within a designated time frame. Therapists are expected to rotate holiday shifts with permanent staff.
