Animal Care Supervisor

The McConnell Group, Inc. (TMG), a health science company and provider of clinical and research support services, is seeking an A nimal Care Supervisor oversees daily poultry husbandry operations, facility sanitation, and compliance with all animal care, biosafety, and biosecurity requirements. This role manages contract animal technicians, ensures high standards of animal welfare, and supports research activities across multiple BSL-2 agricultural facilities.


Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, schedule, and direct daily work of animal care technicians.
• Ensure proper feeding, watering, cleaning, monitoring, and recordkeeping for poultry flocks.
• Oversee specialized procedures including artificial insemination, hatchery operations, brooding, and breeding management.
• Maintain compliance with SOPs, AUPs, IACUC requirements, and USDA/ARS biosafety and biosecurity rules.
• Monitor animal health, report abnormalities, and coordinate with Veterinary Services and the Attending Veterinarian.
• Maintain facility sanitation, environmental conditions, equipment logs, and biosecurity entry/exit procedures.
• Submit required reports, documentation, and issue notifications within established timelines.
• Support emergency response, weekend/holiday coverage, and continuity of operations.
• Ensure all personnel complete required training, background checks, and adhere to the No Avian Contact Policy.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• 7-10 years of experience in animal care, husbandry, or research facility operations.
• Experience supervising staff in an animal care or agricultural setting.
• Knowledge of poultry husbandry, animal health, biosecurity, and BSL-2 agricultural environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in dusty, hot/cold, or high-risk environments.
• Eligibility for Tier 2 federal background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

• AALAS certification.
• Experience with SPF poultry flocks or agricultural research programs.
• Experience in BSL-2 or biosecure facilities.

Working Conditions

• Work in barns, labs, and animal housing areas with varying temperatures.
• Exposure to dust, feathers, disinfectants, and animal dander.
• Work performed across multiple biosecure buildings with strict PPE and entry/exit protocols.
• Weekend, holiday, and emergency work required to support continuous animal care.
