The Assembler Lead is a key frontline leader responsible for supporting daily manufacturing operations through technical expertise, production leadership, and employee development. This position serves as the primary point of contact on the production floor, providing direction, troubleshooting support, and coordination of activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. Working closely with Supervisors, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams, the Assembler Lead drives operational excellence by resolving production issues, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, developing team capability, and ensuring safety, quality, and productivity standards. The successful candidate combines strong technical assembly knowledge with demonstrated leadership skills to support the achievement of business objectives and customer commitments. - Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to assigned production team members while communicating departmental priorities, objectives, and expectations.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts related to assembly processes, mechanical systems, electrical systems, testing equipment, and workflow interruptions to minimize downtime and maintain production utilization.
- Lead and participate in structured problem-solving activities, including 8D investigations, root cause analysis, containment actions, corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness to prevent recurrence of quality and production issues.
- Monitor production performance, productivity, attendance, and workflow efficiency, escalating concerns and recommending corrective actions when necessary.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives utilizing ITW Toolbox and 80/20 principles to improve safety, quality, productivity, delivery performance, and cost efficiency.
- Assemble, align, fit, adjust clearances and make wiring connections among component parts and ensure proper function and conformance of parts and/or finished products.
- Clean, file hand ream, tap, straighten broach, and set bearings and bushings, perform incidental greasing, filing or shimming on assemblies or component parts as needed.
- Perform wiring/assembly of switches, motors, circuits, sensors, cables, etc.
- Perform operational testing procedures throughout the assembly process. Makes required adjustments, such as misalignment, timing, non-functional, malfunctioning component parts or assemblies.
- Performs Final Inspection Testing (test booth) on various lines. Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical/electrical trouble conditions.
- Follow test records and final procedures to evaluate the quality of the product, institute/make repairs, and retest.
- Pack component parts/finished products and hand load on pallets.
- Assist in maintaining inventories by making transactions to reflect material changes, and notifying supervision when shortages are imminent.
- Stock parts in designated locations using Kan Ban, ERP and various other inventory stocking methods.
- Performing cycle counts on parts and completes documentation.
- Train others to support tiered assembler program as required to pass on acquired job knowledge and perform audits on assemblies
- Performs additional duties as required by supervisor.
- Ability to use hand tools, portable power tools, fixtures and gauges to build/measure performance of assemblies, sub-assemblies, component parts and complete units.
- Work on assemblies using special tools and gauges such as Micrometers and Calipers with no oversight.
- Working knowledge of MS office to track production metrics and check part inventory status.
- Corrects unusual conditions and/or quality issues during the assembly process.
- Detect unusual conditions, specific problems or quality issues during assembly process (assembly errors or component parts) and leads non-conforming part solutions team.
- Observe good housekeeping/sustainability practices and follow all safety requirements, including preventative maintenance and inspection of tools and material handling devices.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous assembly/manufacturing experience required.
- Ability to work from oral instruction, written work instructions, photos, diagrams, prints, sketches, and routings or schematics.
- Fundamental knowledge of computer/electronic handheld devices.
- Adheres to all plant rules and maintains proper attendance standards according to company policy.
- Ability to work and communicate well with others in a cross-functional team environment.
- Must be able to physically perform (stand, pivot, lean, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds) as job assignment requires.
