Pathology Associate Scientist

Position Summary The Associate Scientist will collect, process, and prepare specimens for microscopic examination and for review by the Pathologist. Includes necropsy, fixation, trimming, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining tissue specimens to support GLP and investigative toxicologic nonclinical studies. Key Responsibilities Perform necropsy on rodent and non‑rodent animals; trim, fix, process, embed, microtome, and stain tissue specimens. Assist with scheduling necropsy/histology work. Enter data into the pathology data collection system. Operate/maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot (e.g., processor, embedding station, autostainer, microtome, coverslipper). Operate specialized equipment with little/no supervision (e.g., IHC equipment, laser capture microdissection, cryostat). Organize histology study specimens/files for archival; assist with staffing for archival procedures as directed. Comply with safety regulations, SOPs, GLPs, and study protocols; help develop/revise SOPs. Conduct QA review of microslides; mentor others. Serve as study coordinator (with no supervision) and mentor less experienced coordinators. Perform advanced methods (e.g., immunohistochemistry and other molecular techniques) with little/no supervision. Facilitate training for select lab procedures; conduct inventory of supplies/chemicals. Review draft/final study protocols and study files; provide feedback. Stay current with histology literature and share relevant techniques. Assist Archivist with receiving/organizing/disposition of materials; may supervise staff as needed; interact with CRO laboratories as needed. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s in biological sciences (2–4 years relevant experience) or MS (0–1 year). Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL), ASCP certification preferred. Required: experience with trimming, embedding, processing, staining, and coverslipping; independently perform some special microslide stains. Preferred: experience developing/performing IHC or other molecular techniques with limited supervision. Basic working knowledge of mammalian anatomy.
