Summary This position is in the Central Supply Room of the Environmental Management Service (EMS) at the Baltimore, Maryland VA Medical Center (VAMC). Responsibilities Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Receives, stores, handles, and issues EMS and housekeeping equipment, supplies and materials. Loads and unloads shipments from facility trucks. Uses warehouse pallet jacks to stack, move, and arrange pallets of supplies and equipment. Organizes, arranges, assembles, and delivers stock in storage areas. Responsible for mixing, labeling, storage transport, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and cleaning products for use by employees. Performs operator maintenance and coordinates repair of equipment such as battery-powered floor scrubbers, various types of vacuum cleaners, well washers, pressure washers, floor polishers, carpet shampooers, etc. Provides equipment servicing such as cleaning/replacement of filters, flow-control valves, hoses, seals, gaskets and clamps. Maintains parts and supplies for equipment maintenance. Schedules maintenance and repair work. Inventories stock on hand; visually inspects equipment, supplies and materials; verifies quantity and condition of materials and equipment. Uses automated equipment such as optical readers, scanners, and computer keyboards to load computerized inventory data, access inventory information, and fill item requisitions. Develops and maintains transaction tracking system and current records and data of supplies, equipment, and materials on hand and those distributed to each employee to prevent pilferage and/or overstocking. Develops and maintains a distribution schedule to ensure the timely delivery of supplies, equipment and materials and maintains related data and metrics. Performs other related duties as assigned WORK SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Rotating Shifts including weekends and holidays. Qualifications SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to 75 pounds or more and moves equipment which may be bulky and cumbersome, weighing a few hundred pounds using weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work is performed in all areas of the medical center to include patient care areas and administrative office areas. Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or under dimly lit lighting conditions. Regular exposure to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hard-hats, steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Incumbent may be required to work weekend and holiday duty tours. The Incumbent may be assigned to any shift authorized based on the needs of EMS in Baltimore. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
