Camp Dining Room Attendant (3576)

Job Details: Location: NSC-Camp Walter Johnson – Denton, NC 27239. Salary: $250.00 – $250.00 commission. Category: Camp. Responsibilities Perform duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines and American Camp Association accreditation standards. Maintain awareness of the dining area to ensure safety, fire, and health policies and procedures are observed at all times; report any deviations to the Camp Dining Hall Supervisor. Maintain personal hygiene according to health regulations (wash hands, wear hair back, closed-toe shoes, etc.) and perform duty tasks such as setting tables, serving food, cleaning the dining room, bathrooms, and surrounding areas. Clean the dining hall, including sweeping, mopping, polishing, and waxing floors in the kitchen and dining room. Ensure the cleanliness of tables, chairs, condiment holders, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, coffee makers, stoves, and ovens. Assist in ensuring that garbage containers in the kitchen and dining areas are leak-proof, securely covered, and tied when not in use; coordinate disposal of trash and recyclables. Maintain inventory, ensure items are stocked and organized, and advise the Camp Dining Hall Supervisor of any necessary supplies. Assist cooks when requested; serve as a table monitor and provide supervision during meals. Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities. Keep personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection. Be available to assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director. Before Meals Arrive 45 minutes before scheduled mealtime. Prepare pre-meal assignments given by the Camp Dining Hall Supervisor. Wash hands before serving or putting out food. Wear serving gloves at all times while serving food. Wear closed-toe shoes at all times while in the dining room and working. During Meals Serve food as directed by the Camp Dining Hall Supervisor. Pass out milk at the end of the serving line. Attend to the camper’s tables and the drink room as assigned. Do not sit, eat, or drink during camper mealtimes. After Meals Help with clearing tables: remove plates, silverware, and any other items that require washing. Wipe off tables and chairs. Sweep under each table after each meal; after the evening meal, sweep and mop the floor. Reset tables for each meal. Qualifications Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques. Knowledge of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, culture, and protocol. Ability to embrace, support, and promote The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry. Ability to represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner. Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of meals. Ability to wash dishes and kitchen appliances. Ability to clean the kitchen and dining area. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff. Ability to communicate and work with groups of varying age and skill levels and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply behavior‑management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; must be able to assist campers in emergencies (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required for constant supervision. Education and Experience Six months of experience working in a kitchen preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
