Fire Equipment Mechanic

Position Information Fire Equipment Mechanic This position works within the Kern County Fire Department. This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time without notice. Examination Written Exam: 100% – assessing knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine mechanics, maintenance and repair procedures, tools, equipment, smog control devices, diagnostic equipment. Applicants must score at least 70% on each phase. Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards Three (3) years of experience repairing heavy motorized equipment, including one (1) year with diesel engines. Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's License required to successfully pass the six (6) month probationary period. Additional Information Admittance to the examination will require a valid government‑issued photo ID. A background check may be conducted. Post‑offer medical and drug screening tests may be required at County expense. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for twelve months.
