The County Caseworker 1 - Intake Screener position with the Wayne County Child Welfare Services offers the chance to support children and families during important moments of need. The work ensures that referrals, documentation, and service plans are handled with care and accuracy. As a County Caseworker 1 - Intake Screener, you will perform the following duties: Intake Screening: Receive, document, and process referrals through phone, walk‑in, and electronic systems Information Verification: Confirm demographic details, conduct collateral contacts, and monitor protective service alerts Case Assessment: Interview clients, gather social histories, and evaluate family needs to determine service eligibility Service Coordination: Make referrals, support plans for child well‑being, and provide protective services for abused or neglected children Record Preparation: Create case documentation, reports, home studies, and maintain accurate records Court and Meetings: Attend court sessions, provide testimony when needed, and participate in staff meetings and training Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with 1-hour lunch. Once a caseworker is trained, normal working hours from 8am to 4:30pm may be flexed to coincide with consumer needs. Caseworkers may be put on a rotation for on‑call services which will include nights and weekends. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits. Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation. A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
