Janitor

Program Population:

The NENB Housing program is an interim housing program that supports individuals experiencing homelessness as they work toward greater stability, independence, and improved quality of life. Participants may have a variety of individual needs and circumstances, which may include mental health or substance-use concerns. Individuals served by the program may occasionally experience periods of emotional distress or heightened frustration that can result in verbal disagreements, raised voices, or other challenging interactions.

Position Purpose:

The Housekeeper is responsible for ensuring facility and outdoor area cleanliness in a manner that upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County through the direct provision of health care, health education, services, and research. The Housekeeper supports the day-to-day cleanliness and upkeep of assigned facilities and residential areas to help provide a welcoming and well-maintained environment for staff, clients, residents, and visitors.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Cleans and maintains floors, surfaces, and designated areas using approved cleaning methods and procedures.
2. Prepares and uses cleaning and disinfecting products in accordance with manufacturer instructions, established procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
3. Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, which may include client rooms, nursing and examination areas, reception areas, outdoor areas, laundry rooms, computer labs, staff lounges, offices, restrooms, hallways, utility rooms, and other designated spaces.
4. Cleans and disinfects client and public restrooms using appropriate cleaning and sanitation procedures.
5. Cleans mirrors, windows, fixtures, and other designated surfaces as needed.
6. Maintains an adequate inventory of assigned cleaning supplies and equipment and notifies the supervisor when supplies are low or equipment requires repair or replacement.
7. Reports client concerns, facility hazards, maintenance issues, or other conditions requiring attention to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner.
8. Maintains cleaning supply and equipment storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
9. Follows applicable federal, state, local, organizational, health, sanitation, and safety requirements related to housekeeping duties.
10. Coordinates with designated staff or laundry services to help ensure that required cleaning materials, including cleaning cloths and mop heads, are available.
11. Cleans designated medical equipment and other items according to established procedures and manufacturer guidelines, when applicable to the position.
12. Uses designated cleaning equipment and supplies according to established sanitation procedures, including appropriate mop heads and color-coded cleaning systems.
13. Cleans and maintains community areas by removing trash, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning designated windows, mirrors, counters, and other surfaces.
14. Supports applicable quality assurance and continuous improvement activities related to housekeeping and facility cleanliness.
15. Assists with maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients, residents, staff, and visitors.
16. Participates in required training, staff meetings, and professional development activities related to job responsibilities.
17. Maintains confidentiality and protects client, resident, employee, and organizational information in accordance with applicable policies and requirements.
18. Follows organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including attendance, scheduling, workplace conduct, and reporting requirements.
19. Reports potentially unsafe conditions or situations to the appropriate supervisor and follows established procedures for addressing and documenting such concerns.
20. Conducts personal business only during designated breaks and meal periods, in accordance with organizational policies.
21. Maintains a professional appearance and follows applicable workplace dress and conduct standards.
22. Participates in organizational activities, meetings, committees, or community programs when assigned and as appropriate to the position.
23. Demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to perform assigned duties and accommodate reasonable changes in work priorities based on operational needs.
24. Provides housekeeping support for designated meetings, events, or activities when requested by the supervisor.
25. Participates in required workplace safety programs, emergency preparedness activities, and training applicable to the position.
26. Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
27. Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.
28. Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace.
29. Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
30. Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role.
31. Participate in JWCH's customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
    1. Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions.
    2. Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes.
32. Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.

Requirements:

1. Minimum 2 year of experience in facility housekeeping service
2. Ability to communicate effectively
3. Basic computer skills, including email and web navigation.
4. Ability to move up to 50 pounds.
5. Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
6. Physical ability to stand for long period of times.
7. Physical ability to constantly bend, stoop, and stretch.
8. Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and handling of cleaning chemicals.
9. Ability to understand and follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
10. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
11. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Requirements:

1. Possess a valid CA Driver's License, clean driving record and able to travel to different sites
2. Basic computer skills, including email and web navigation.
3. Ability to move up to 50 pounds.
4. Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
5. Physical ability to stand for long period of times.
6. Physical ability to constantly bend, stoop, and stretch.
7. Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and handling of cleaning chemicals.
8. Ability to understand and follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
9. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
10. Proven experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred.
11. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
