WMS Volleyball Coach

Greensville County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated coach to lead a positive and competitive program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. Off-season duties and responsibilities related to preseason preparation are included in the stipend.

Coaching and Player Development:

• Plan and run effective practices focused on fundamentals, strategy, and conditioning.
• Evaluate players and provide them with ongoing, constructive feedback.
• Build a positive, inclusive team culture that encourages academic and personal growth.

Program Coordination:

• Collaborate with the Division Activities Director to meet athletic department goals.
• Manage tryouts, lineups, meetings, and match strategy within VHSL rules.
• Support the development of players at all program levels.
• Assist with fundraising efforts and ensure appropriate use of funds.
• Promote school spirit through clinics, events, and community outreach.

Out-of-Season Responsibilities:

• Develop and oversee off-season conditioning programs within VHSL guidelines.
• Encourage year-round fitness and skill-building.

Facilities & Equipment:

• Assist the Athletics Director in maintaining courts and/or fields, equipment, and storage areas associated with the sport.
• Report safety or facility concerns immediately.

Administrative Duties:

• Communicate clearly with players, parents, and staff.
• Maintain accurate eligibility, attendance, and equipment records.
• Follow all school, district, Tri-Rivers District, and VHSL policies.
• Represent Greensville County High School with professionalism.

Qualifications:

• Coaching or competitive playing experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of sport fundamentals and player development.
• Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes.

Requirements:

• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
• Completion of required certifications and background checks.

Physical Attributes/Demands:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs for extended periods.
• Ability to move throughout school buildings, athletic facilities, playing fields, and other event locations.
• Ability to supervise indoor and outdoor athletic events in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull athletic equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without assistance.
• Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication with students, staff, parents, officials, and community members.
• Ability to observe and monitor athletic activities to ensure student safety, security, and compliance with school division and VHSL regulations.
• Ability to travel between school facilities and off-site athletic venues as required.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours to support athletic events, tournaments, and related activities.

Work Environment:

• Work is performed in office settings, gymnasiums, athletic fields, stadiums, and other indoor and outdoor venues.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, moderate noise levels, crowds, and occasional physical risks associated with athletic events.
• Frequent interaction with students, staff, parents, officials, volunteers, and members of the public in a fast-paced environment.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of certified personnel.
