Job Title: Production Operations Technician
Job Description

The Production Operations Technician coordinates parts, assembly, testing, painting, packaging, and shipping of products in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role performs a wide range of manufacturing tasks, including assembling components, operating manual and automatic equipment, setting up machines, testing finished units, and dismantling complex subassemblies, all in accordance with detailed work process instructions. The technician rotates among all stations within each assembly cell, performing repetitive tasks at a consistent pace to meet customer demand while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate parts, assembly, testing, painting, packaging, and shipping activities to support on-time delivery of products.
• Assemble unit assemblies and complex subassemblies by following detailed work process instructions and production documentation.
• Operate manual and automatic manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently to support production goals.
• Set up machines and workstations, including preparing tools, fixtures, and materials required for each production run.
• Test unit assemblies and complex subassemblies to verify functionality, quality, and adherence to specifications.
• Dismantle unit assemblies and complex subassemblies as needed for repair, rework, or quality investigations.
• Rotate among all stations within each assembly cell, performing repetitive tasks at a consistent pace to meet customer demand.
• Use power tools, including pneumatic wrenches, drills, and torque guns, to assemble and secure components accurately.
• Perform basic quality inspection during and after assembly to identify defects, verify correct assembly, and ensure compliance with standards.
• Repair final unit assemblies and complex subassemblies using established procedures and appropriate tools.
• Follow written work instructions, read and interpret basic production documentation, and complete required production records accurately.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of oil-lubricated components.
• Collaborate with team members and support staff to resolve production issues and improve workflow within the assembly lines.

• At least 6 months of prior production experience in a manufacturing environment.
• At least 6 months of experience in an assembly-based position.
• Ability to read, write, and understand basic work instructions and production documentation.
• Hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools in a production or assembly setting.
• Ability to operate pneumatic tools such as pneumatic wrenches, drills, and torque guns safely and effectively.
• Capability to perform repetitive tasks at a consistent pace while maintaining quality and accuracy.
• Ability to rotate between multiple stations within an assembly cell and adapt to different tasks.
• Basic mechanical aptitude to assemble, test, and repair unit assemblies and complex subassemblies.
• Attention to detail to follow work process instructions and perform basic quality checks.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.

• Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment with multiple assembly lines.
• Familiarity with hydraulic components or oil-lubricated mechanical systems.
• Comfort working with oil-lubricated parts and components in a production setting.
• Ability to work different shifts, including first, second, or third shift, as production needs require.
• Strong teamwork skills and willingness to support various tasks within the production area.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent production operations.

You will join a large, established manufacturing operation that offers exposure to a wide range of assembly lines and production processes, providing strong opportunities to build and grow your hands-on technical skills. Work Environment

The role is based in a large manufacturing facility employing approximately 270 to 290 production team members across 13 to 14 different assembly lines. The plant focuses heavily on hydraulic components and uses oil for lubrication, so many of the products and work surfaces involve contact with oil. Open positions are available on multiple shifts, including a first shift from 6:00 to 2:00, a second shift from 2:00 to 10:00, and a third shift from 10:00 to 6:00, providing structured and predictable working hours. The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, with frequent use of manual and automatic equipment, hand tools, and pneumatic tools such as wrenches, drills, and torque guns. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, jeans, a t-shirt, and gloves to support safety and protect against contact with oil and mechanical components. The facility emphasizes safe work practices, proper use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to standard work instructions.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of AMES, IA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.70/hr.
