Paramedic

Responsibilities Duties will include responding to all medical emergencies, fires for support activities, rescues & recovery alarms; sustaining a high level of preparedness for emergencies; maintaining vehicles & equipment for medical emergencies, rescue & recovery. Subject to callback for emergencies, special training and/or other administrative reason. Professional Paramedics work as a team to protect life and property during all types of emergencies. Minimum Qualifications Certified or licensed paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or the National Registry. EMT‑B through TDSHS eligible to sit for the written examination if enrolled in a Paramedic program with expected graduation not later than June30,2026. For out‑of‑state candidates: obtain Paramedic certification through TDSHS or National Registry prior to the date of offer. At least eighteen (18) years of age on the date of the written exam, and not forty‑five (45) years of age or older at time of hire. Graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED equivalency certificate. Read, write, and speak the English language. Good moral character. Valid Texas driver’s license within 60 days of hire unless extended by the Department Head. Legally eligible to work within the United States. Achieve a minimum passing score of seventy (70) percent on the written examination. Pass a background investigation. Successfully complete the physical ability test. Pass oral interviews. Obtain or possess certifications consistent with this Fire Department hiring policy. Successfully complete a post‑job offer drug screen, psychological examination and medical examination that includes passing a visual acuity test, and physician certification that the applicant is not dependent on and does not use illegal drugs. Skills Reading operations manuals, safety procedures, training manuals, and other materials to maintain certification. Writing reports and record‑keeping. Accurately recording drug calculations and timesheets. Understanding division procedures and policies. Written Examination Take place on Saturday, May30,2026, or Saturday, June6,2026 at the Public Safety Operations Training Center. 3500 DB Wood Rd, Georgetown, TX78626. Check in will begin at 8:00 a.m.; no one will be admitted after 8:30 a.m. Completed Personal History Statements are due immediately following successful completion of the written examination. Failure to return the completed packet with required documents will disqualify the candidate. For applicants seeking military credit of five (5) points, provide a copy of military discharge papers (DD214) showing honorable discharge and a minimum of 180 total days of active service. Eligibility List Preference First Preference – Certified or licensed Paramedic through TDSHS or National Registry at the time of the written examination. Second Preference – Certified or licensed EMT‑B through TDSHS or National Registry at the time of the written examination, and currently enrolled in a Paramedic program with expected completion date no later than June30,2026. Salary and Benefits Starting salary for candidates hired with a paramedic certification: $76,421 (based on a 56‑hour work week, including Paramedic Credentialing pay, excluding extra shifts).
