Job Description As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools you will be expected to provide rigorous instruction to the diverse population of students in your classroom. You will align your teaching to the district and state curriculum, regularly assess students for learning comprehension, and modify your instruction to ensure that all students are learning. You will create a classroom that is conducive to the learning needs of all students, especially students who are learning English and students with disabilities. Accountability Objective This position is accountable for delivering a high quality instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment consistent with the curriculum frameworks, standards, and the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools. Principal Responsibilities Remain up to date regarding curriculum content. Effectively plan and assess curriculum and instruction. Mentor students’ understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate. Effectively manage classroom environment. Provide effective instruction, which includes making learning goals clear to the students, using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques. Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn. Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement. Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including implementing specific strategies for students with special needs, with 504 plans, and second language learners. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Appropriate Massachusetts DESE license in Physics 8-12. SEI Endorsement. BA degree. Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience in the content area. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs. Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African language. Experience teaching students who are English language learners. Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition. Candidate licensed in another state will be considered if eligible for a temporary license from DESE; must possess an equivalent license from another state and have documented proof of working under that license for at least three complete school years. Candidates will need to apply for and pay for the DESE license as a condition of employment. Other Requirements Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
