As a Unit Secretary, you'll serve as a vital member of the patient care team by providing organizational, clerical, and communication support that helps ensure smooth and efficient operations within our nursing units.This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys a fast-paced healthcare environment, thrives on organization, and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.What You'll DoAs a Unit Secretary, you will:Serve as the primary receptionist for your assigned patient care area, greeting visitors and answering incoming calls professionally and courteously.Communicate information accurately and efficiently with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other hospital departments.Provide clerical support to the nursing team, including maintaining patient records and processing provider orders.Respond to multiple alarm and communication systems within the patient care environment.Answer patient call lights promptly and ensure urgent needs are communicated to nursing staff.Maintain accurate patient census information, including admissions, transfers, and discharges.Assist with ordering and maintaining unit supplies.Retrieve and communicate laboratory and radiology information as needed.Support onboarding and training of new staff members in clerical and transcription responsibilities.Help maintain a positive, organized, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.What We're Looking ForRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from the AHA (American Heart Association)1+ years of experience in a patient care setting.Knowledge of medical terminology.Strong computer proficiency.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Ability to remain organized and effective while managing competing priorities and frequent interruptions.Preferred QualificationsMedical terminology coursework.1+ years of Unit Secretary experience.Experience working with telemetry systems.The Ideal CandidateYou are:Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable.Calm and professional in a busy healthcare environment.Friendly and service-focused when interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.Able to multitask and adapt to changing demands throughout the day.Committed to maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.A positive team player who enjoys supporting patient care operations.Why Craig Hospital?Nationally recognized for excellence in spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation, Craig Hospital is more than a healthcare organization.
