ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST

Environmental Scientist (12‑Month Limited Term) Responsibilities Prepare, track, review, edit, and enforce compliance on Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA) agreements. Obtain California Endangered Species Act (CESA) permits and comment on California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and related environmental documents for Santa Clara Valley Water District projects. Represent the Bay Delta Region Habitat Conservation Program and provide consultative advice to external entities. Apply best available technical information in writing and presentations to benefit Valley Water, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the public, and trust resources. Handle sensitive public contacts with a wide variety of special interest groups. Minimum Qualifications Minimum requirements are detailed in the Class Specification for the Environmental Scientist classification. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of state and federal permitting processes related to LSA agreements, CEQA, Natural Community Conservation Planning, and CESA. Experience in wildlife, fisheries, or conservation biology and wildlife monitoring. Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead, and collaborate in a team environment. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication with superiors, coworkers, and external partners. Working Conditions Work largely in an office setting and attend frequent site visits and meetings outside the office. Field work, sometimes in remote locations and rugged terrain, may be required in adverse weather. Must possess a valid driver’s license and operate a state vehicle with and without 4WD; occasional requirement to wear a CDFW uniform. Position will be headquartered at a CDFW Bay Delta Region office (Fairfield, Napa, or Santa Rosa) and may include hybrid telework in accordance with departmental policies.
