Role Overview

Most research roles ask you to spread yourself thin across every product in the building. This one does not. As the dedicated Senior UX Researcher for, an inventory forecasting, planning, and reporting platform used by internal teams at our client, you will own the research for a single product from discovery through validation and have the room to do it properly.

You will sit on the UX team for product development, working alongside interaction designers, visual designers, and another researcher, and partnering closely with product managers and developers. Research here covers both sides of the work: digging into the problem before requirements are written, then testing what gets built to confirm it actually solves that problem.

This is a seat for a true researcher who wants to use more than usability tests and interviews. You will be trusted to choose the right method for the question, explain your findings clearly to stakeholders at every level, and help mentor other researchers and shape research standards across platforms. The team is collaborative and low-drama, and your background in psychology, behavioral science, anthropology, or a traditional UX path is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end research, from discovery through validation, to inform product strategy and design.
• Run discovery work with product managers, stakeholders, development team members, and users to define problems before requirements are written.
• Conduct usability testing and other validation research to confirm that built features solve the problems they were meant to solve.
• Perform research studies on other platforms as needed.
• Translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations for product and design teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align research with business goals.
• Advocate for user-centered design with team members, product development partners, and executive-level stakeholders, including explaining research methodology when questions come up.
• Mentor other researchers on the team.
• Help maintain and grow research strategy and standards across platforms, and create or monitor research processes as needed.

Required Skills and Experience

Experience

• Minimum 3 years in a dedicated UX research role, with a research position held for a meaningful stretch within the last 3 years.
• Experience mentoring or leading other researchers, or a clear aptitude for it.
• Experience with internal tools or customer-facing products. Either background is welcome.

Technical Skills

• Strong qualitative research skills, including user interviews and usability testing.
• Working experience with research methods beyond interviews and usability testing, such as survey design. Contextual inquiry, A/B or preference testing, and unmoderated studies are a plus.
• Quantitative skills appropriate for a senior researcher, including survey methodology and the ability to explain concepts like margin of error to non-researchers.
• At least one case study that shows a research method beyond usability testing or interviews. A traditional portfolio is not required.

• Easygoing, collaborative, and steady under pressure.
• Leadership and mentorship soft skills.
• A genuine advocate for users and user-centered design.

Education

• Degree in human-computer interaction, psychology, cognitive science, market research, or anthropology preferred. Behavioral science and other analytical backgrounds are also welcome.
