Airport Operations Officer

Overview AIRPORT OPERATIONS OFFICER – permanent position at Orlando International Airport. 36 hours per week, 12‑month probationary period. Salary & Benefits Salary: $55,000 ($29.38/hr) + $165 shoe allowance + $1/hr shift differential for majority of shift after 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance; retirement 401(a) DC plan with 7 % city contribution, 3 % match, vested at 4 years. Education reimbursement $700/yr, court time compensation, shift differential, longevity payment tiers. Eligibility & Certification Must possess Florida law enforcement certification prior to hire; corrections officer certification does not apply. Candidates from other states may apply if certification is from a state other than Florida. Current enrollment in a Florida law‑enforcement academy is acceptable. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED meeting state standards. 21 years of age (preferred); U.S. citizen. Valid Florida driver’s license. Physical condition meeting vision, hearing, and physical requirements. No disqualifying felony or misdemeanor convictions related to moral character, perjury or false statements. Must meet restrictive drug standard. Disqualifiers Criminal Conduct Felony convictions. Certain misdemeanor convictions within 5 years. Domestic‑violence convictions. Admission of felony within 5 years. Pending misdemeanor or felony charges. Felony while employed as a law‑enforcement officer. Other conduct determined disqualifying. Drug Use Cannabis use within 1 year of application. Controlled substance use within 3 years. Sale of controlled substance within 10 years. Driving History Consecutive convictions (manslaughter, DUI, reckless driving, etc.) as specified in the posting. Suspensions or revocations for reasons other than financial responsibility. Habitual traffic offender within last 10 years. Employment History Discharge or resignation to avoid discharge within past 3 years for neglect of duties, safety violations, conduct toward the public, or punctuality. Inability to meet performance standards without satisfactory record. Magical misconduct while sworn officer. Pending charges before licensing agencies. Probationary Period 12‑month period with performance evaluation. Permanent status granted only after satisfactory performance. Selection Process Exam: Frontline National Civil Service Exam (in-person or via National Testing Network; $55 cost via NTN). PAT (Physical Assessment Test). Polygraph. Interview, medical exam, psychological evaluation, background check. Physical & Working Conditions Enter/exit vehicles wearing ~15‑20 lb equipment; run, climb fences, subdue suspects. May lift >50 lb; stand extended periods when directing traffic. Exposed to extreme weather, chemicals, noise. Position Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Law enforcement principles, procedures, and operations. Community service agencies, federal, state, city laws. CPR, defensive tactics, report writing. Communications, use of firearm, radio, handcuffs. Problem‑solving, reporting, interviewing. Public contact, discretion, judgment.
