Residence Life Coordinator

The Residence Life Coordinator is a live-in adult staff member responsible for overseeing and mentoring up to four CPYB male students residing in a single-family home located within one block of the CPYB studios and two blocks from Carlisle Area High School. They will also work an evening shift at the front desk up to three times per week to integrate themselves to the school while their students are in class. The Coordinator will receive a salary, free room with all utilities (including high speed internet) included, a meal plan through Dickinson College which is 1.5 blocks away, a paid mobile phone plan, and benefits. This position serves as the primary liaison between student families and CPYB Leadership, ensuring clear communication, consistent support, and a safe, structured residential environment. Beyond supervision, the Coordinator plays an active role in helping students develop the habits, discipline, and life skills necessary to become independent, self-sustaining young adults, while supporting their overall well-being in areas including ballet training, nutrition, transportation, strength training attendance, personal accountability, and mental resilience throughout their CPYB experience.

The Residence Life Coordinator must be a mature, dependable adult with experience supervising, mentoring, teaching, or caring for adolescents in a residential, school, camp, athletic, arts, or youth-development setting. The successful candidate must be able to live on-site in the assigned CPYB residence throughout the Academic Year and provide consistent adult presence, structure, guidance, and supervision for up to four male students ages 13-17. This role requires strong judgment, emotional maturity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build appropriate, professional mentoring relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries and enforcing household expectations.

Required Qualifications
Prior experience working with teenagers, preferably in a residential life, boarding school, camp, coaching, education, performing arts, counseling, student life, or youth mentorship environment.

Ability to live in the student residence and provide evening, overnight, weekend, and on-call supervision as needed.

Demonstrated ability to mentor adolescents in personal responsibility, time management, respectful communication, healthy routines, accountability, and independent living skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate regularly and professionally with families, CPYB Leadership, faculty, school contacts, and outside providers when appropriate.

Ability to maintain a safe, structured, respectful home environment and respond calmly and appropriately to student issues, conflicts, illness, homesickness, schedule concerns, or emergencies.

Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a safe driving record, as the position may involve student transportation to CPYB, school, appointments, strength training, grocery shopping, or approved activities.

Ability to support student wellness by monitoring general routines related to nutrition, rest, school attendance, ballet training, strength training attendance, transportation, and overall mental and emotional resilience.

Willingness to follow CPYB policies regarding student safety, confidentiality, communication, supervision, reporting, transportation, curfew, visitors, medication protocols, emergency procedures, and residential conduct.

Ability to model the professionalism, discipline, respect, and personal habits expected of CPYB students.

Current or ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and any other emergency-response training required by CPYB.

Child Safety and Clearance Requirements
Employment should be contingent upon successful completion of all required child-safety screenings and training. In Pennsylvania, DHS states that certain individuals must submit clearances to be employed or volunteer with children, and required clearances may include the Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, and FBI Criminal History Clearance; DHS also notes that clearances are required at least every 60 months, though employers or licensure rules may require them more often. The position should also require completion of approved child abuse recognition and reporting training; Pennsylvania DHS supports these trainings through web-based and in-person options, and notes that mandated reporters may report suspected abuse through ChildLine by phone or electronically through CWIS.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or coursework in education, student affairs, psychology, social work, counseling, child development, performing arts administration, sports management, or a related field.

Experience in a pre-professional ballet, performing arts, athletic, or high-performance youth training environment.

Experience supporting students who live away from home for the first time.

Familiarity with adolescent nutrition, wellness routines, injury-prevention habits, strength training accountability, and the emotional demands of intensive artistic or athletic training.

Ability to collaborate with leadership while also managing day-to-day residential decisions independently.

Experience communicating with parents or guardians in a calm, clear, timely, and professional manner.
