About the Role

The Company is seeking a Senior Director and Head of Tax to lead the reconstruction of its tax function. This pivotal role involves taking full ownership of the tax positions across a diverse fund platform, including REITs, RICs, TRSs, C corporations, partnerships, and a Qualified Opportunity Fund. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical tax positions, the associated risks, and the delivery model, with a focus on compliance, investor tax reporting, and structuring transactions. This is a build role, demanding a high level of judgment and the ability to drive outcomes in a fast-paced, remote organization. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years' of tax experience, with a strong emphasis on REIT taxation, and a proven track record of making independent decisions and defending positions. Applicants for this role at the company should be prepared to work in a dynamic environment where the tax function is evolving and the operating model is designed to be flexible. The role requires a leader who can not only manage a small, senior in-house team but also effectively collaborate with external partners. The Head of Tax will be expected to have a hands-on approach, with the ability to scope and negotiate engagements, and to ensure the resilience of the function through documentation and automation. A CPA, JD/LLM, or equivalent designation is preferred, and the candidate should be a firm believer in the company's social mission. The position is not suited for those who prefer a large, static team or a rigid compliance calendar, as the focus is on leveraging a small, high-performing team and adapting to the changing needs of the platform.
