Elementary School Counselor Evergreen Local Schools–Metamora, Ohio Job ID: 5815478 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Starting Date: Aug17,2026 Position Type: Full-time Job Category: Student Services> School/Guidance Counselor Job Description Plan and implement a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program consistent with the district’s mission and mandated requirements. Essential Functions Provide preventive and developmental counseling to help students enhance decision‑making skills that support academic, personal, and social growth. Assist with program planning and identify opportunities to enhance student learning. Keep current with intervention design research and contribute to the collaborative development of dropout prevention, re‑entry and school completion strategies for at‑risk students. Monitor student attendance/performance data to identify students struggling academically. Document observations of students in classroom and other program settings. Investigate student concerns such as abuse/neglect, attendance, discrimination, domestic violence, emotional/behavioral problems, poverty, pregnancy/parenting, self‑esteem, substance abuse, etc. Allot time for individual/group counseling; help students acquire/improve personal skills such as accountability, interpersonal communication, responsible behavior, and self‑confidence. Participate in a differentiated referral system that allows staff/parents to request an evaluation and/or consultation for non‑disabled students. Resolve problems that impede student learning and identify teaching techniques, interventions and aligned resources best suited for each student. Write Section504 plans and serve as a parent/staff resource for 504 plan implementation. Provide opportunities for all students to participate in an inclusive educational environment. Monitor intervention efficacy and recommend modifications as needed to improve outcomes. Advocate for students, observe student demeanor and investigate/report atypical behavior. Help students make appropriate choices, grow academically, and promote creativity, cultural awareness, reflective problem‑solving skills and self‑reliance. Facilitate student learning activities that encourage teamwork and positive peer relationships. Assist with drug/harassment/violence prevention and school safety programs. Exemplify professionalism, foster goodwill and enhance the district’s public image. Maintain high standards for conduct, discipline and compliance with drug‑free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures. Develop and maintain mutually respectful relationships with co‑workers; function as part of a cohesive team. Encourage community participation in school‑sponsored activities. Help students understand and embrace ethical conduct and democratic values. Maintain a professional appearance and appropriate work attire. Maintain an acceptable attendance record, be punctual, and communicate promptly about personal delays or absences. Participate in the development of best practices and advance academic standards. Respect privacy and maintain confidentiality of privileged information. Actively participate in staff meetings, conferences, and other required school activities. Communicate program objectives and performance expectations to students, parents, and staff. Prepare and maintain accurate records; submit required paperwork on time. Use active listening/problem‑solving techniques, respect diversity, and resolve issues tactfully. Participate in training to stay current with professional standards associated with work duties. Update skills as needed to use available task‑appropriate technology effectively. Work toward mastery of individualized development/performance goals as directed. Implement effective pupil management procedures and provide appropriate student supervision. Recognize and respond to prevent aggressive behavior or harassment; comply with district procedures and state law for discrimination and suspected child abuse/neglect. Assist with unexpected or urgent situations as needed. Help implement workplace initiatives that advance district goals. Additional Elementary-Level & Intermediate/Middle Duties Implement structured student character education and career exploration activities, helping students understand academic requirements associated with vocational objectives and the interrelationships of good citizenship, school, work, and family life. Facilitate student transitions (e.g., program placements, promotion to the next grade level). Additional High School-Level Duties Facilitate student transitions (e.g., alternative programs, promotion/graduation, school to work, post‑secondary program enrollment, employment). Guide students in the investigation of individualized educational, vocational, and personal goals. Help students identify personal competencies and interests. Help students use career‑focused resource materials to understand academic requirements associated with vocational objectives. Provide employment and post‑secondary training information, update scholarships and financial aid information. Serve as a contact person and assist students in enrolling in the joint vocational school. Working Conditions Balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, or standing. Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes. Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and communicable diseases. Interacting with aggressive, disruptive and/or unruly individuals. Performance Evaluation Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Evergreen Local School District. Job Requirements Current licensure and state department of education certificate as determined at the time of appointment. Current BCI/FBI background reports. Guidance Counselor experience. At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience (preferred). Bachelor degree (preferred). Citizenship, residency, or work visa required. Valid state department of education license/certificate. Adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators. Displays flexibility, reliability, self‑discipline, and willingness to take on challenging tasks. Embodies high ethical standards and integrity; accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct. Exhibits effective time management and resourceful problem‑solving skills. Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Meets mandated health screening requirements following a conditional offer of employment. Shows evidence of core computer competencies appropriate at the time of hire.
