Job Title: Per Diem Registered School Nurse (RN) | Organization: El Monte Union High School | Location: El Monte, California | Position Type: Per Diem (as needed) | Compensation: $40.00 per hour Position Overview El Monte Union High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered School Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality health services to students on a per diem (as-needed, day-to-day) basis. This means the nurse is not scheduled for regular full-time or part-time hours, but instead works as needed to cover absences, peak demand, or special circumstances. The ideal candidate will support student well-being, promote a safe and healthy school environment, and respond effectively to both routine and emergency health needs. Key Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, illness assessment, and emergency response Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies Monitor and manage student health plans, including those for chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with state and federal regulations Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic success Identify and respond to communicable diseases and implement infection control procedures Participate in health screenings and promote wellness education within the school community Ensure compliance with district policies, California state health regulations, and nursing standards Qualifications Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California Current CPR and First Aid certification (BLS preferred) Previous experience in school nursing, pediatrics, or community health is highly desirable Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Ability to work independently and adapt to a dynamic school environment Work Schedule This is a per diem position with flexible scheduling based on school needs.
