Job Title: Drool Developer / Technical Specialist HCLTech is looking for a highly talented and self‑motivated Drools Developer who will design, build, and optimize a rules execution capability using Drools within an API‑driven and workflow‑orchestrated platform. The role focuses on translating underwriting rules into executable decision logic, building rule artifacts, and supporting rapid validation in collaboration with BAs, Underwriting SMEs, and integration teams. Must Have Experience: Experienced 5 years to 10 years Drools Developer with Business Rules Management Systems Strong hands‑on experience with Rules Engine / decisioning implementation Strong hands‑on expertise in Drools (DRL, KIE APIs, KieSession, KieContainer) Experience with Optimize Rules Experience with Microservices Background in Insurance Platform or Life Term Insurance Experience integrating Drools with Java‑based applications Strong debugging skills, test design, and experience supporting rule validation and regression Understanding of business rule management concepts (stateless/stateful sessions, rule lifecycle) Good to Have: Exposure to insurance or underwriting rules (Term Life preferred) Experience with externalized / data‑driven rule management (DB/config‑based rule models) Exposure to workflow/orchestration‑driven platforms Familiarity with AWS‑based deployments and cloud‑native patterns Understanding of enterprise audit/logging/monitoring expectations Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain Drools rules (DRL / decision tables as applicable) and supporting Java components to enable configurable decisioning. Implement and enhance rule execution services, integrating with upstream consumers via REST APIs and orchestration‑driven flows. Configure and manage KieBase/KieContainer/KieSession lifecycle, including rule packaging and dependency management suitable for iterative delivery. Support externalized and configuration‑driven rule approaches (e.g., DB/config managed rules) to improve maintainability and reduce tight coupling. Design and execute rule unit tests, regression suites, and validation checks to ensure rule correctness and prevent conflicts. Optimize rules for performance and scalability (efficient fact modeling, agenda/flow control, and evaluation tuning). Collaborate with architecture and integration teams to ensure proper separation between workflow orchestration and rule evaluation responsibilities. Implement logging and traceability for rule execution outcomes to support auditability and operational support. Support defect triage, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for rules‑related issues across environments. Contribute to CI/CD readiness by ensuring rule artifacts are version‑controlled, buildable, deployable, and aligned to Dev SecOps practices. Must Have Skills Drools Microservices Pay Range Minimum: 122,000k Pay Range Maximum: 180,000k Compensation and Benefits A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance‑based bonuses subject to company policies.
