How You Will Make An Impact

The Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Engineer will have a hands-on role in advancing Aptima’s mission by transforming innovative concepts into high-quality technical solutions that enhance interoperability in a government-owned modeling and simulation laboratory environment. You will lead the design, prototype, and testing of technical solutions that power simulation environments, ensuring they are flexible, robust, and optimized for our customers’ training demands.

Your work will include novel prototyping activities and integration of technologies into a modeling and simulation (M&S) environment that includes the JSE and many other technologies, giving you a direct opportunity to impact the capabilities of this unique modeling and simulation environment. Whether you’re prototyping and testing software that connects simulation capabilities to the JSE, analyzing the technical and network performance of the JSE Technical Baseline, or adding a new human in the loop simulator into an event, your expertise will directly contribute to the technical advancement of this M&S environment that is transforming how test and training enterprises work together. Your work will directly operators to train more effectively, rehearse mission concepts, and continuously sharpen their readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain a JSE-in-a-box (JIAB) stack aligned to current JSE Technical Baseline (JTB) releases.
• Integrate simulators and tools across multiple security levels using networking standards and protocols that may include the Global Reusable Interface Domain(GRID) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS).
• Integrate simulation frameworks and tools such as AFSIM and NGTS into the modeling & simulation integration environment.
• Assist with simulator and simulation system maintenance and operational readiness, adhering to established system configurations.
• Collaborate with mission partners, program managers, and other technical individuals of multiple specialties to plan demonstrations, dry runs, and evaluations; support event planning, execution, and debrief.
• Provide hands-on technical troubleshooting across Windows / Linux systems, networks, simulators and tools.
• Provide cross-functional support to project team members during hardware installs, demonstrations, or facility changes.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience integrating and operating modeling & simulation (M&S) systems and simulators in LVC/DMO environments (e.g., DIS, GRID).
• 2+ years hands-on technical experience operating within the Joint Simulation Environment and or JSE-in-a-Box (JIAB).
• Demonstrated proficiency integrating simulators and tools using networking standards and protocols (e.g., Global Reusable Interface Domain (GRID), Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), HLA/RPR-FOM) and planning/executing integration events across multiple security levels.
• Experience using and developing scenarios in simulation frameworks and tools (e.g., AFSIM, NGTS) within a modeling and simulation environment.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing one or more of: system and system-of-system performance, network latency and packet-level inspection, distributed system operation and data flows.
• Ability to independently identify and troubleshoot software and hardware issues.
• Working knowledge of workstation hardware, cabling, and basic networking sufficient to support IS staff as needed.
• Strong documentation habits, including system notes, change logs, and configuration updates.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team to include scientists, program managers and subject matter experts.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to build innovative solutions when off-the-shelf options don’t fit.
• Demonstrated initiative and ownership in driving tasks and builds to completion.
• Collaborative outlook that supports shared goals and project success.
• Active (or recent) U.S. Security Clearance is required, Secret Collateral
• Eligible for a TS SCI U.S. Security Clearance
• Desired Certifications: Must meet DoD 8140 IAT Level II compliance (e.g., Security+).
