Job Summary As an EHS Specialist, you will provide technical expertise and support in the development and implementation of the overall Environmental Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) for our facilities. This will require partnering closely with location management, line supervision, and individual employees to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities within the EHSMS. Primary Responsibilities Develop, implement, and continuously improve all environmental and sustainability elements within the EHSMS: develop, update, administer and monitor all EHS programs, procedures, policies, and standards ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations and aligning with corporate EHS requirements. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all environmental reports (Air Emission Summary, TRI, TierII, SWPPP, deviation reports, and waste disposal both hazardous and non‑hazardous, etc.). Develop and implement job safety and environmental analysis (JSEA) as appropriate. Create and implement site‑specific LevelIII procedures (Energy Programs, Environmental Awareness, Carbon Footprint Management, Waste Management, Environmental Sampling, etc.). Complete daily monitoring and inspections as required within the above programs. Act as first point of contact for employees regarding emergent issues, hazards, and questions. Lead various safety meetings and Emergency Response Team (ERT) initiatives. Organize and maintain all hard copy and electronic records, permits, audits, and written programs necessary for compliance with regulations and the EHSMS. Develop and coordinate education/training for compliance with EPA and EHSMS expectations. Coordinate preventative maintenance and emergency repairs of all pollution control devices and their related systems, including in‑house maintenance personnel and contracted outside maintenance. Serve as liaison with local, state and federal compliance regulatory personnel, including officials on any necessary tours and/or inspections. Conduct comprehensive environmental and safety inspections to identify, document and track correction of issues. Maintain necessary certifications (VEE Method9, DOT/RCRA, etc.) and stay current with regulations and technologies through conferences and seminars. Assist in answering notices of violations (NOVs) and initiate necessary abatement actions. Assist in collecting, inputting, and distributing various data and reports for environmental and sustainability initiatives (waste generation, recycling, gas, water, sewer output, electricity, etc.). Monitor collection and storage of production waste materials and ensure proper disposal processes are followed. Assist the EHS Manager with developing FY environmental and sustainability objectives, targets, and processes. Drive completion and continuous improvement of the environmental risk assessment process (aspects/impacts). Support Health and Safety functions, as necessary, with risk assessments, incident analysis, START observations, LevelIII development and implementation, education, and training. Maintain approachability among all employees regularly entering production areas and visiting employees. Remain visible to all levels of employees. Train new and current employees in various safety and environmental topics. Perform other duties and project work as assigned. Required Skills Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and/or manufacturing environments. Proven ability to develop processes from conception through integration into an EHSMS. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to manage multiple tasks and determine priorities. Demonstrated ability to obtain buy‑in and achieve goals through influence. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate at various levels within the organization. Effective teamwork skills. Creativity and latitude in executing projects and tasks. Ability to maintain confidentiality in varying situations. Education & Experience Bachelor of Science in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field; or 5+ years of applicable work experience (3–5 years in a manufacturing or industrial setting). Preferred: Five (5) years of experience with operating air permits, hazardous waste management, NPDES permits, SPCC plans, and interactions with state and federal agencies. Current certification in Hazardous Waste Management and Response that meets the requirements of 29CFR1910.120q(6)(iii). Experience with emergency response procedures and ISO14001. Physical Requirements Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, steel‑toed or metatarsal‑guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs while working in an industrial environment. Use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching within hand or arm’s length. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead or at shoulder level, navigating confined spaces. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects between 25 and 50pounds in all directions. Maintain a stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate positions as necessary. Perform close visual inspections of products with specific vision requirements. Work in an open warehouse environment subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold). Climb and operate on catwalks, ladders, equipment, etc., to troubleshoot maintenance problems. Operate at heights over 20feet and in equipment pits accessible only by ladder. Safely operate standing and sit‑down power industrial trucks (PIT) and other advanced industrial equipment.
