Organization: Federal City Performing Arts Association d/b/a Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) Position: Marketing Assistant Status: Part-Time Reports To: Director of Marketing Location: Washington, DC About GMCW Founded in 1981, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) is a community-based, not-for-profit LGBTQ+ and allied arts organization with an annual budget of $1.9M. Our mission is inspire equality and inclusion with musical performances and education promoting justice and dignity for all. GMCW comprises over 300 performing and support members across its flagship Chorus, three small ensembles (Rock Creek Singers, Potomac Fever, and Seasons of Love), a dance company (17th Street Dance), and a youth chorus for LGBTQ+ and allied youth ages 13–18 (GenOUT Youth Chorus). Each season, GMCW presents three mainstage productions, a cabaret, and a stand-alone concert for GenOUT, 100 outreach events, recordings, domestic/international tours, and our annual Spring Affair fundraising gala. About the Role The Marketing Assistant is a new part‑time role on the GMCW team and will be responsible for managing and implementing marketing activities, in particular overseeing GMCW’s social media platforms. The ideal candidate has a clear grasp of all core components of marketing, social media, public relations, graphic design, and general video editing. This role will report to and work closely with the Director of Marketing in addition to partnering with other staff as needed. Responsibilities Oversee all GMCW social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) Generate, edit, and publish social media content (text, image, video) weekly Create and implement social media plans Tracking and evaluation of social media analytics Stay up‑to‑date on social media trends and industry best practices Assist with GMCW marketing toolkits (social media hints, digital assets, etc.) Generate materials for GenOUT Youth Chorus as needed Drafting and sending press releases Coordinate PR opportunities with press, media, and local businesses Create pitches for print, radio, and television journalists, bloggers, video makers, etc. Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, PR firms, etc. Communications with membership as needed Assist with designing and editing GMCW marketing materials Duties as assigned by GMCW Marketing Director and/or Executive Director Skills Deep knowledge of major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools Ability to interpret data and adjust strategies Experience with social media management software Knowledge of Adobe Suite preferred Knowledge of MailChimp preferred Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills Ability to work under tight deadlines You Need to Have A Bachelor’s degree and/or 2-3 years of social media management experience Flexible schedule and availability to work evenings or weekends as needed Ability to work on multiple projects with different deadlines simultaneously A natural people person who appreciates that everyone has an important story to tell A reliable and friendly communicator who reaches out and follows up Enthusiasm to propose fresh ideas without prompting by leadership, openness to feedback on those ideas, and a persistence to bring those ideas to life About Compensation and Benefits Stipend paid quarterly commensurate with experience Part-time employees do not receive benefits beyond compensation GMCW does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, ethnicity, religion, national origin, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, gender, marital status, disability, or status as a US veteran.
