Required Qualifications

The Activities Assistant must possess:

• A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

• CNA certification, preferred, but not required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Activities Assistant will assist the Activities Director in creating a monthly calendar of activities written in a large print and posted in a prominent location that is visible to residents and visitors.

Ensure that a copy of the monthly calendar of activities is placed in a prominent spot in each resident’s room.

Coordinate and assist residents in getting to activity locations within the facility.

Assist in conducting scheduled activities to promote the physical, social, and mental well-being of residents.

The Activities Assistant will document resident activity program attendance and ensure that all charted activity progress notes are informative, descriptive of the services provided, and indicate the resident’s response to the service.

Observe resident mood, behavior, and degree of involvement in facility activities and report any changes or concerns to the Activities Director.

The Activities Assistant will involve residents and families in the planning of activities when possible by completing interviews with both residents and families.

Assist with conducting in room activities programs for those residents who benefit from one-on-one visits.

Coordinate and arrange for offsite field trips and transportation needs when necessary.

The Activities Assistant will coordinate activities’ needs and requests with other departments in a courteous and timely manner to assure that daily activities can be performed without interruption.

The Activities Assistant will assist with Resident/Family Council meetings as indicated.

Additional Assigned Tasks

• Treats all residents with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents’ rights.

• Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures.

• Adheres to standards of business conduct and complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and guidelines.

• Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures to protect residents and themselves.

• Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.

• Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and confidentiality standards, reporting any noncompliance to the appropriate personnel. Reports any instances of retaliation or discrimination to the executive director or the Compliance Officer.

• Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or executive director. Protects residents from abuse, and cooperates with all investigations.

• Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.

• Actively participates in all life safety and emergency drills and training. Fulfills assigned responsibilities during the implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.

• Reports any work-related injuries and illnesses to supervisor immediately after injury or discovery of illness.

• Adheres to established infection control policies and procedures.

• Completes all assigned training and skills competency as a condition of employment.

• Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining an ongoing quality assurance program for the activities department.

• Aids in acquiring necessary equipment and supplies, ensuring they are accessible and stored in an organized manner.

• Perform administrative tasks, such as completing and submitting required forms, reports, and documentation to the Activity Director as needed.

• Refers residents and families to appropriate social services personnel when necessary.

• Collaborates with the Administrator in budget development for the activities department.

• Contributes to the facility’s efforts to maintain and improve the quality of care through active participation in the following:

• Attends Care Plan meetings as requested.

• Serves as a member of the QAPI Committee as requested.

• Attending mandatory in-services and successfully completing all required facility training.

• Ability to interact tactfully and professionally with residents, family members, visitors, staff, and government personnel.

• Patience and diplomacy when handling difficult situations involving residents, families, or staff.

• Must not pose a risk to the health and safety of others in the workplace.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

• Must Meet general health requirements per facility policy, including medical exams and immunity status verification for infectious diseases

• Must be able to work beyond normal business hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.

• Ability to assist in the safe evacuation of residents in emergency situations.

• Requires physical capabilities such as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, performing overhead lifting, and other movements necessary for the position.

• May be exposed to potential hazards, including falls, burns, and environmental odors.

• Exposure to airborne contaminants such as dust, tobacco smoke, disinfectants, and other chemicals.

• Risk of exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions such as AIDS, COVID-19, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.

• May encounter emotionally distressed or confrontational residents, family members, visitors, or personnel.
