DUTIES :
Serves as the Youth Center Director to ensure a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment exists in the Youth programs facilities, grounds, sports fields and that security and maintenance is monitored. Performs developmental assignments in the application of professional principles, techniques, methods, and procedures used to provide youth programs and services that meet community needs. Establishes budgets and manages appropriated funds (APF), non-appropriated funds (NAF), and funds from other sources such as grants. Conducts analysis of budgets and programs to ensure Youth Center continues to meet needs of patrons. Executes rewarding opportunities for youth to be physically active and exposed to positive lifestyle behaviors. Plan, organize and provide a year-round youth sports, recreational, social, and educational program. Plans, coordinates and schedules recurring activities, special events and joint community undertakings to maximize use of facilities and resources consistent with the MWR mission. Coordinates and leads the Boys and Girls Club of America programming to include Keystone, Torch Club and Military Youth of the Year. Interacts professionally with employees, parents, volunteers and local installation command personnel. Participates actively and positively in managing and resolving issues with parents, volunteers and /or employees. Responsible for the supervision of employees and volunteers. Supervises personnel assigned to Youth Programs. Assigns, directs and reviews the work of subordinate employees; plans and carries out the training and development of employees; evaluates employee work performance; recommends selections, status changes and disciplinary actions; plans schedules, and coordinates work operations, explains management policies. Works to achieve the objectives of personnel programs and policies and deals effectively with employees on complaints, grievances, and other matters involved in the day-to-day administration of the Youth Center program. The types and number of employees supervised by this position will vary based on the size of program and actual program requirements. This position may require TDY travel in support of Boys and Girls of Club of America activities and goals. This position requires you to work nights and weekends, as needed. Must be 18 years old and speak, read, and write in English. Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect. Performs other duties as assigned . You will be evaluated for this position based on how well you meet the qualifications below. Minimum : Currently possess or be able to acquire within 6 months of employment, CPR and First Aid certifications A child protective background clearance will be conducted after hire. Applicant must pass this clearance successfully. Continued employment is contingent on favorable background check. At least 2 years’ experience working in youth programs, focused on the 5 th -12 th grade age group, or teaching at the middle school/high school level, with at least one year in a supervisory position. Demonstrated experience and proficiency using social media platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Preferred (in addition to the minimum): Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, or other recreational programs. Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for middle school or high school academic levels. Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management. Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations. Undergraduate Education: Major study -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; or physical education.
