Position Summary Posting Note: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced nursing leader to join our team as the Manager Pediatric Emergency Department at Arizona Children's Hospital, with a planned opening at the end of 2026 to early 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our newest community hospital opening from the beginning. The ideal candidate will be a skilled leader with a passion for emergency care, capable of overseeing departmental operations in a rapidly changing environment, while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. The manager will provide support and oversight for both supervisory and frontline clinical team members that includes approximately 55 FTEs. Our state‑of‑the‑art Pediatric Emergency Department is equipped with 24 beds, including 4 safer rooms, 1 treatment room, and 1 resuscitation bay. We are committed to providing the highest level of care to our pediatric patients in a supportive and cutting‑edge environment. This position manages, evaluates and supervises operational functions and activities of the assigned area by guiding and supporting staff and serving as liaison with other departments to facilitate quick resolution of issues to ensure excellence in a family‑centered care environment. Position Duties Clinical Leadership 1. Maintains 24/7 accountability for patient care operations. 2. Collaborates with colleagues to develop and implement the patient care philosophy, standards of practice, department goals, policies and procedures. 3. Assesses necessary nursing and technical personnel are available to meet fluctuating census, acuity and budgetary goals; implements recruitment, retention and onboarding strategies with HR. 4. Ensures continual delivery of high quality nursing care. 5. Assures compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory agencies. 6. Enforces adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements; measures health outcomes and recommends adjustments. 7. Assumes bed‑manager responsibility in collaboration with House Supervisor as scheduled. 8. Stays current and works toward best practice in nursing management, clinical knowledge and institutional policies; serves as a resource for clinical aspects of responsibility. Staff Supervision and Development 1. Provides timely feedback and uses Human Resource policies to facilitate staff growth and performance. 2. Manages personnel administration, including recruitment, interviewing and selection of professional, technical or supervisory staff. 3. Fosters high engagement, low turnover and supports staff satisfaction. 4. Assists staff with goal setting and performance development. 5. Evaluates staffing patterns; matches competency with patient acuity. 6. Identifies staff performance issues and provides coaching and support. 7. Monitors safety reports and collaborates with supervisors for trend analysis. 8. Assesses customer and patient satisfaction; develops strategies to address issues. 9. Collaborates with Clinical Education Specialist for orientation and ongoing professional development. 10. Participates proactively and retroactively in quality reviews using data, dashboards and event reviews. Fiscal Responsibilities 1. Provides timely fiscal review and feedback to management. 2. Develops and monitors revenue, expenses and capital budget with approval. 3. Reviews financial data monthly and recommends strategies to ensure compliance with approved budgets. 4. Conducts ongoing evaluation of productivity. Strategic Management 1. Establishes and oversees unit goals aligned with division and organizational priorities. 2. Supports the growth of Arizona Children’s through program development and implementation. 3. Oversees all aspects of care delivery, both direct and indirect, for the unit. 4. Facilitates attendance at medical staff, hospital and patient care area committees. 5. Supports shared governance and a just culture structure. 6. Supports unit‑based and system‑wide research and quality improvement initiatives. 7. Influences nursing practice through participation in professional organizations. Miscellaneous Duties 1. Works closely with other disciplines and specialty areas to ensure effective delivery of high‑quality care. 2. Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Master’s in related field (Preferred) Experience 1. Five years of experience in a specialty area or with a pediatric patient population to include leadership and/or supervisory responsibilities (Required) 2. Three or more years of experience in an Emergency Department (Preferred) Special Skills 1. Analytical and statistical skills necessary to develop and monitor unit operating and personnel budgets (Required) 2. Demonstrates critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities to resolve complex clinical, systems and personnel problems (Required) 3. Must be able to assume 24‑hour accountability for unit coverage (Required) Additional Requirements 1. Current AZ RN license or an RN license from a compact state with multi‑state privileges or the ability to establish licensure to Arizona law prior to start date (Required) 2. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (Required) 3. PALS certification from the American Heart Association within one year of hire (Preferred) 4.
