The Patient Access Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient intake process within healthcare facilities across the United States. This position is responsible for managing patient registration, verifying insurance information, and facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers. The specialist acts as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while accurately collecting and entering patient data into electronic health record systems. By coordinating with various departments, the Patient Access Specialist helps optimize patient flow and supports the overall operational efficiency of the healthcare organization. Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a healthcare or customer service environment, preferably in patient registration or medical billing.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or higher in healthcare administration or related field.
• Certification as a Certified Patient Access Representative (CPAR) or similar credential.
• Experience working with multiple insurance providers and familiarity with insurance verification software.
• Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the U.S.
• Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

• Greet and assist patients upon arrival, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
• Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information accurately.
• Register patients in the healthcare system’s electronic health records (EHR) and scheduling software.
• Coordinate with insurance companies to verify coverage and obtain necessary authorizations.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding appointments, billing, and insurance coverage.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to facilitate timely patient access and resolve registration issues.
• Update patient records and manage data entry to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and support the billing department as needed.
