Job Title: Process Engineer Job Description

The Process Engineer supports and leads daily production line activities and continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This role serves as the technical leader for assigned processes, making data-driven decisions to ensure the safety, quality, and efficiency of manufacturing operations. The Process Engineer evaluates existing processes, materials, and equipment, maintains labor and capacity standards, and implements lean practices to optimize performance across all value streams.

Responsibilities

• Support and lead daily line support activities to ensure stable and efficient manufacturing operations.
• Act as the technical leader for assigned processes and make decisions that protect and improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Evaluate current processes, materials, and equipment to ensure compatibility with the facility’s operating philosophy and performance requirements.
• Maintain and update departmental labor standards for the area of ownership, ensuring they reflect current processes and practices.
• Analyze manufacturing processes to identify waste and inefficiencies, and assist in implementing improvement recommendations.
• Determine and maintain capacity calculations based on equipment capabilities, labor resources, and established standards.
• Assist in balancing machines and work content to achieve minimum cycle times and optimal throughput.
• Implement and support lean manufacturing practices across all value streams to drive continuous improvement.
• Manage and own the preventive and predictive maintenance programs for applicable equipment and tooling.
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to identify needs for new equipment and perform justification calculations to support capital investment decisions.
• Collaborate with vendors on new equipment selection, specifications, and integration, ensuring compatibility with existing facilities and operating philosophy.
• Provide tool engineering support by evaluating the feasibility of various material applications for new and existing products.
• Contribute input to material selection decisions, ensuring cost, performance, quality, and tooling considerations are fully evaluated.
• Apply knowledge of CAD/CAM software to support process design, tooling design, and manufacturing documentation.
• Use SAP or similar systems to support manufacturing processes, including bills of materials and related data.
• Develop and write clear, accurate work instructions to guide production operators and ensure consistent process execution.
• Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) to support accurate production planning and execution.
• Utilize project management skills to plan, coordinate, and execute process improvement and equipment-related projects.
• Apply statistical process control and motion and time study techniques to monitor and improve process performance.
• Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives through data analysis, problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration.

Essential Skills

• 2+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience.
• 3–5 years of process engineering experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in industrial assembly environments.
• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering.
• Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
• Demonstrated knowledge of CAD/CAM software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with manufacturing processes and process improvement methodologies.
• Ability to maintain and update labor standards and perform capacity calculations.
• Experience managing preventive and predictive maintenance for equipment and tooling.
• Experience partnering with Manufacturing Engineering and vendors on equipment selection and justification.
• Experience writing detailed work instructions.
• Experience working with bills of materials (BOMs).
• Project management experience, including planning and executing process-related projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience or certification is a plus.
• SAP experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC) is preferred.
• Experience performing motion and time studies is preferred.
• Experience in tool engineering support and evaluating material applications is beneficial.
• Experience implementing lean practices across multiple value streams is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and eliminate process waste.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors.
• Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing plant environment and primarily supports first-shift operations. The standard schedule is a 4-day workweek with 10-hour shifts, with flexibility to work a 5-day schedule with 8-hour shifts if needed. The Process Engineer works closely with production lines, equipment, and tooling, regularly engaging with manufacturing engineering, maintenance, and vendor partners. The environment involves working around industrial assembly equipment, participating in preventive and predictive maintenance activities, and using technologies such as CAD/CAM software, SAP, and Microsoft Office. Appropriate industrial attire and adherence to plant safety practices are expected to ensure a safe and efficient workplace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eden Prairie, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
