Phlebotomist

Job Description The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy and finger stick procedures for the purpose of obtaining blood for laboratory analysis. Location and Schedule Kenmoor location, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 to 3:30. Responsibilities Responsible for performing venipunctures and finger sticks in accordance with written policies and procedures. Responsible for accurately identifying patients and properly labeling and handling specimens. Determine and draw the proper collection tubes for tests requested. Monitor phlebotomy supplies and notify manager when replenishing is needed. Enter new patients into the laboratory information system and properly order tests on existing patients; designate where send‑out tests are sent; print and fax reports through the system. Maintain a safe working environment by strict adherence to company safety policies and procedures; report safety hazards to the safety officer; keep the phlebotomy area clean and well stocked. Assist the medical technologist with tasks such as answering the phone, balancing lab billing, ordering send‑out tests, coordinating patient care with physicians and nurses, helping with blood product distribution, and assisting with bone marrow biopsies. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (Medical Assistant Degree preferred). Two years related work experience.
