Description: MLA (Move Language Ahead) is an industry leader in providing safe, educational, and cultural vacations to students from around the world. Each year thousands of students travel with MLA as part of our short-term English as a second language (ESL) programs. Along with our proprietary ESL curriculum, we also provide our students with great excursions featuring some of the most popular historical and tourist destinations across the country.

Position Overview:

• Responsible for student safety and wellbeing during MLA swim times
• Reports to Welfare Manager
• Employment from now – end of July in California

The MLA Lifeguard is a part-time, seasonal position (July) with MLA Move Language Ahead. The Lifeguard works under the direct supervision of the MLA Activity Manager and Center Director. Lifeguards are hired to supervise all MLA swimming events during the program.

Location: Pitzer College 1050 N Mills Avenue Claremont, CA 91711

Schedule: The MLA Lifeguard is required to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program. A typical shift is from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. Working days are: 11th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, 24th of July

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Candidates must have a valid American Red Cross or YMCA life guard certification. Successful candidates will have enthusiasm; excellent communication skills; good interpersonal skills; and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment. Candidates must represent MLA Move Language Ahead's values and model those values to subordinates and colleagues. The completion of a satisfactory background check is required. The completion of a child abuse clearance may be required.

Key Position Accountabilities:

• Maintains constant surveillance of guests in the swimming facility;
• Acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of guests in the event of emergency;
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

Compensation: Compensation for MLA Lifeguards is $20.00 per hour, payable bi-weekly.
