Hazmat Technician

Job TitleThis position is responsible to provide operational support in mitigation efforts for clients. Qualified candidates must possess the ability to perform tasks related to Emergency Haz Mat situations and will be required to use a variety of specialized equipment under supervision.ResponsibilitiesWork with the Environmental Emergency Response Teams, Transportation, Fixed Facility and Site Remediation ProjectsEnsure work is completed according to measurements, specifications, drawings, plans, or other materials/instructionsEnsure health and safety procedures are strictly followed, including, but not limited to, safe lifting, personal protective equipment, and chemical labelingProactively communicate issues and problems that may or are affecting completion of the job to the responsible Project Manager.Learn and understand MSDS protocols for chemicals used during mitigation processesPerform daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and maintain in clean serviceable conditionMust maintain attention to detailComply with prescribed safety procedures or federal laws regulating waste disposal methods.Decontaminate equipment or sites to remove hazardous or toxic substances.Prepare hazardous waste for processing or disposal.Use of proper lifting techniques, use of slide pads, use of Styrofoam blocks, care and protection of customer personal belongingsWill be required to meet BELFOR Standards in safeguarding other people's propertyMust have a comprehensive understanding of customer service, principles and practicesWork under time constraints to meet specific timelinesWill be required to work nights and weekends as requested as travel periodicallyReport time worked and equipment and consumables used timely and accuratelyAttend BELFOR sponsored operations and safety training courses as requiredRequirements:Respond in a timely manner to emergency spills and environmental cleanup situationsInteract with emergency services including but not limited to first, local and state police, EMS and regulatory agencies.Train employees as required on job techniques, safety procedures, and equipment use.Conduct a fit test the first day of the week and on the first day of a new job for all employees who are required to wear respirators.Record mileage as required and download time records every evening.Document all work completed on the job each day along with the materials/equipment used on the job on a Daily Job Report.
