Instructional Aide

As a school Instructional Aide, you will facilitate teacher's lesson plans, provide small group instruction, lead educational activities, and provide individual classwork assistance as requested. You may also be asked to provide classroom support including grading students' assignments, making copies, organizing supplies, and performing regular clean-up duties. Your students will vary in age from prekindergarten to adult-transition, depending on the school to which you will be assigned within the district. You will accompany classes to lunch, recess, and special events, supervising student's behavior and ensuring orderly transitions. You will reinforce their teachers' instructions and expectations to facilitate a positive learning environment. You may also be asked to participate with certain students in prescribed PT, OT, or SLP services in accordance with individual education plans (IEP) or 504 plans.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the classroom teacher in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials on bulletin boards and/or other classroom learning displays
• Under supervision of a certified teacher, prepare for classroom activities and assist with distributing and collecting materials and other instructional materials for classroom instruction
• Assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans. Administer various tests as directed. Prepare mandated reports and documentation as required
• Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, copying, and filing of instructional materials
• Grade student tests and assignments, recording of grades and attendance, lunch reports and other items for maintaining student records and files
• Assist the certified teacher with supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restroom visits, field trips, hallways, playground time, and bus loading/unloading activities as directed
• Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor students during outdoor activities as directed, become familiar with student IEP goals and report progress regarding student performance and behavior to supervising teacher
• Deliver hands-on and supervised toileting and diapering assistance to students while maintaining dignity, privacy, and full compliance with internal policies

Requirements:

• Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to provide life-saving interventions if needed. This includes the ability to perform at least 5 sets of hands only CPR for roughly 2 minutes
• Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit on the floor, stand, or walk for extended periods of time which normally will be the length of the school day and include the physical demands of assisting a student or students in and outside of a classroom space
• Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection. Must be able to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication. Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means
• Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites based on job assignment. Must be flexible and willing to work in a variety of schools and settings
• Must have the ability to be understanding, patient, friendly, and show a receptive attitude toward children with special needs and must demonstrate the ability to remain calm under stressful conditions
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the school district. Ability to meet and interact with teachers and students with tact, courtesy, and discretion

Qualifications:

• Education: Highschool diploma or equivalent Some college required
• Experience: 1 year of experience working in a school setting preferred, but not required
• Licensure and Certification: BLS certification through American Heart Association

This pay range represents Covelo Group's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting.
