Job Summary

The Radiologic Technologist I is responsible for conducting diagnostic radiographic examinations independently, performing essential job functions at a technical level without the need for constant supervision.

Essential Job Functions

• Produce diagnostic radiographic examinations by accurately positioning patients, utilizing immobilization devices, and selecting appropriate technical factors based on individual patient needs. Operate equipment as required for specific procedures.
• Restrict radiation exposure by appropriately using collimating devices to protect unaffected parts of the patient.
• Perform portable x-ray examinations in various settings, including patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.
• Follow operational procedures to correctly identify and label patient films with their names and x-ray numbers, marking films to indicate the side of the patient taken.
• Process exposed x-ray films using available developing methods.
• Complete patient requisitions with accurate technologist initials, date, number, and film size.
• Maintain an organized and clean x-ray room in accordance with departmental guidelines.
• Prepare radiopaque contrast media and assist physicians in administering these mixtures to patients.
• Perform administrative duties including scheduling appointments, instructing patients, filing films, maintaining records, and welcoming patients.
• Provide assistance to all patients as necessary, offering support based on their individual needs in moving, turning, and transitioning onto and off the x-ray tables.
• Lift a minimum of 5 lbs, push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs, and stand for a minimum of 6 hours daily.
• Identify the unique needs of the patient population and tailor care accordingly, considering factors such as age, culture, language, and physical impairments. Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and caregivers at their appropriate comprehension levels.
• Adhere to standards outlined in the Organizational Competencies of the medical center.

Education

Required Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
• Completion of clinical training and A.R.R.T. requirements.

Certifications & Licensure

Required Certifications

• New Jersey State License.
• Eligibility for the National Registry, with successful examination completion.

Languages

• English: Read, Write, Speak

Work Schedule

• Location: North Bergen, NJ
• Shift: 3 PM - 11:30 PM; occasional overnight shifts for PTO requests.
• Hours per Week: 40
