Steamboat Springs School District is seeking qualified Substitute School Health Tech Paraprofessionals. This position is considered a temporary position for the school year and is paid on an hourly basis $26.11 per hour. As a temporary/on call position it is not eligible for benefits. Position summary: A School Health Technician Paraprofessional Substitute supports student health needs by providing basic first aid, maintaining health records, and assisting with various health-related tasks under the supervision of a school nurse or other health professionals. They document student health information, administer medications, and report concerns to the appropriate authorities. May perform specialized health care services, such as daily living care assistance to students, as supervised by the School Nurse.

Primary responsibilities include providing designated direct health care services within the individual's ability and training for students; following up on health care referrals. Documenting health information in individual student health record, electronic health record, and/or health room log; assisting the nurse with clerical duties, record keeping and immunization records. Maintaining files and updating student health records; preparing appropriate reports for serious accidents or injury. Ability to work under day-to-day direction from a school nurse. Consulting with the school nurse regarding the student's health status, particularly when unstable or questionable. Administering medication to students according to the school nurse direction, district and state guidelines. Administering emergency first aid and CPR in accordance with established protocols. Awareness and education in the use of AED. Adhering to requirements of confidentiality regarding student's records; discreetly handling sensitive information pertaining to students, parents and staff. Responding efficiently to requests for service and keeping principal and office staff informed of any health related problems. At the direction of the school nurse, contacting parents as appropriate. Acting as liaison between school, parents, students and community. Ability to interpret and follow school and state policies/procedures and use of best practices in day to day decision making. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume healthcare setting with constant interruptions and prioritize health office duties with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid CPR certification required or willing to obtain within 60 days of hire. Please upload current CPR cert if you currently have valid certificate. First Aid Certification preferred. Healthcare experience/education preferred. Able and willing to complete Medication administration training and other training provided. Successful completion of FBI/CBI fingerprint background check. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational and clerical skills; high attention to accuracy and detail. Strong computer skills including proficiency in Google platform and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
