House Supervisor

Support hospital operations during evening and overnight hours. Supervise and round on various departments including Surgery, Emergency Department, Med-Surg, and Women's Health. Schedule emergency surgeries as needed. Perform administrative tasks such as admitting newborns and covering responsibilities at the registration desk. Assist with patient transfers from the Emergency Department to inpatient units upon admission. Participate in Rapid Response, Code Blue, Trauma, and other critical situations. Aid staff in service recovery with patients and families. Coordinate supply acquisition for departments and collaborate with hospitalists for accepting outside admissions. Ensure adequate and safe staffing levels. Mix medications only in emergency situations and utilize on-call pharmacy resources when necessary. The supervisor does not take patient assignments but is expected to assist departments in crisis situations. Stay in the recovery area to support nurses during late cases. Help with patient care tasks including medication passing, settling patients, answering call lights, starting IVs, and drawing blood. Oversee staffing during off hours and determine patient placements within the facility. Facilitate patient transfers in collaboration with the relevant systems. Primary shifts are typically Monday through Friday with occasional weekend coverage required. Holiday coverage is rotated among other supervisors. There is no call or standby requirement. Patient and staff rounding is conducted, but safety huddles are not held during overnight shifts. Navy scrubs are the designated dress code. General orientation to all departments will be provided, along with more focused training on specific duties. Supervisors can seek assistance from unit managers or other supervisors as needed.

Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, PALS; NRP preferred Must-Have: IV skills General nursing skills People skills Multi-tasking Critical thinking Ability to quickly learn where to find resources
