Five (5) years experience working with Alaska Native population. Knowledge, abilities and experience with students from unique, diverse, minority backgrounds. Prior successful experience working with Alaska Native youth in rural and/or isolated settings. Prior successful experience working with “at risk” youth. Strong interpersonal relations. Previous experience in program/grant management, college/career advising, preferred. Ability to communicate in a culturally competent fashion with students and their parents or caregivers. Be enthusiastic about working with students from age 13-19 to help them set realistic and attainable goals toward a successful future. Job Description The high school transition coordinator guides students in developing a personalized post-secondary plan, whether they are pursuing higher education, military enlistment, or direct entry into the workforce. This role involves coordinating career assessments, organizing college and vocational visits, and maintaining partnerships with community stakeholders to ensure every graduate has a clear path forward. By providing targeted resources and individual counseling, the coordinator helps students bridge the gap between their secondary education and a successful, independent future. Essential Functions MAJOR FUNCTION: Career Development Assist students with exposure to the world of work and types of careers available Assist students with various career and interest inventories Assist students with researching various careers in their interest areas Promotes collaboration among state and community educational and work‑study service providers and facilitates student access to these services. Collaborate with Alaska Native organizations throughout the state to determine levels of financial support available to our Alaska Native students in their various college and career endeavors and support students in the process of acquiring this support. Collaborate with state and local partners and universities to explore opportunities that lead to certifications and/or dual credit. Collaborate with state and local partners to explore opportunities for students to participate in internships. Collaborate with state and local partners to explore opportunities for students to participate in intensive training in a variety of CTE‑related fields. Provide students with an opportunity to visit various job sites and training centers. Plan and implement travel to vocational training facilities and related development opportunities Advise Principal of dual enrollment paperwork and deadlines Work with seniors to complete scholarship applications, including FAFSA Coordinate with Armed Service recruiters to schedule ASVAB testing Work with students, 7‑12, in developing Personalized Transition Plans Implement AKCIS and AKCIS Jr. for grades 7‑12. Target Programs/Partners: Alaska Works, UAF Community & Technical College and UAF Interior Alaska Campus (Student Service Director and Director of Construction Trades), ANSEP, RAHI, Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, UAF AHEAD Program, Native Associations specific to LC student regions, Health Care professionals. MAJOR FUNCTION: Consultation and Collaboration Provide parent education through small group meetings and/or newsletters Consults with stakeholders to facilitate an understanding of factors in the home, local education agency, and community that affect students’ educational experiences. Uses extensive knowledge of community resources, enabling the school staff and administration to play a critical role in facilitating the provision of community services in the local education agency. Helps to build effective school‑community teams and orients community providers to school climate, culture, structure, and to the laws and regulations governing practice in educational settings. MAJOR FUNCTION: Accountability Promote, report, and disseminate project results to the school board and other stakeholders Maintains accurate records and documentation. Administrate/Manage the requirements of the ACE Grant program: Co‑Manage the grant budget and facilitate grant related purchases Leverage necessary resources to successfully implement the initiative Work with the grant evaluator to write and submit all required reports and assure compliance per grant award document; produce the annual report of project status each year and final reports; other duties as assigned and appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations and abides by said laws and regulations with emphasis on persons with disabilities, child welfare, mental health, confidentiality, and student and parent rights. Organizes time, resources, energy, and workload in order to meet responsibilities. Participates in appropriate professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills. Equipment Used Computer Telephone Intercom System Smartboard, projector Technology/Audio/Visual Equipment (DVD player, television, VCR, etc.) Physical Demands Finger strength required to type effectively on a computer keyboard Finger, hand and arm strength necessary to write on paper, whiteboard, overhead projector sheets, etc. throughout the workday. Visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer monitor Lower body strength to kneel, stand, and walk throughout the workday. Verbal stamina to articulate clearly and with appropriate volume throughout the workday. Auditory discrimination sufficient to receive detailed information through normal speech at 5 feet and warning cries or alarms above normal classroom and playground noise. Environmental Demands Occasional exposure to weather extremes. Occasional exposure to loud noises.
