Lead the Installation of High-Performance Building Automation Systems

Accutemp Engineering is seeking an experienced Lead Controls Installer to join our Building Automation and Controls team.

This is a hands-on field leadership role responsible for leading the installation of low-voltage Building Automation Systems across commercial HVAC projects throughout the region. The ideal candidate will combine strong electrical installation skills with practical BAS/DDC experience, jobsite leadership, and the ability to coordinate effectively with project managers, controls programmers, technicians, electricians, and customers.

A valid Massachusetts electrical license is required for this position.

This role is well suited for someone who takes pride in clean, code-compliant installation work, understands controls wiring and devices, and can help keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

What You’ll Do

Lead BAS Installation

• Lead the field installation of Building Automation Systems for commercial HVAC projects. 
• Safely perform and oversee low-voltage electrical installation work, including: 
  • Mounting control panels 
  • Running conduit 
  • Pulling and terminating control wire 
  • Installing controllers 
  • Installing relays 
  • Installing current sensors and current switches 
  • Installing temperature, pressure, humidity, and other field sensors 
  • Installing actuators and related control devices 
• Assemble, install, wire, and terminate BAS equipment in accordance with project drawings, specifications, controls schematics, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes. 
• Ensure field installations are neat, organized, properly labeled, and ready for programming and commissioning. 

Field Leadership & Coordination

• Provide day-to-day direction to controls installers and helpers in the field. 
• Coordinate installation activities with Accutemp project managers, controls programmers, technicians, electricians, and other trades. 
• Review project scope, drawings, sequences, and installation requirements before work begins. 
• Help plan daily and weekly manpower, material, and installation priorities. 
• Communicate field progress, jobsite issues, material needs, and schedule concerns to project leadership. 
• Identify installation conflicts or constructability issues early and help develop practical field solutions. 
• Support a productive, professional, and team-oriented jobsite environment. 

Drawings, Schematics & Documentation

• Read and interpret: 
  • Electrical schematics 
  • Control drawings 
  • Mechanical plans 
  • Wiring diagrams 
  • Panel layouts 
  • Point lists 
  • Project specifications 
• Verify field installations against approved drawings and scope. 
• Maintain accurate documentation of field conditions, wiring changes, device locations, and completed work. 
• Assist with redlines and as-built documentation when required. 
• Ensure devices, panels, conductors, and network components are clearly and consistently labeled. 

Startup & Commissioning Support

• Support controls programmers and technicians during startup and commissioning. 
• Perform point-to-point verification of sensors, relays, actuators, controllers, and related field devices. 
• Troubleshoot wiring, device, power, and communication issues. 
• Correct field installation deficiencies identified during startup or commissioning. 
• Assist with final punch-list completion and project closeout. 
• Help ensure installed systems are fully functional and ready for customer turnover. 

Safety & Quality

• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable electrical codes. 
• Maintain and use all required PPE. 
• Safely work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts. 
• Inspect work for quality, completeness, and code compliance. 
• Maintain tools, equipment, and company property in good condition. 
• Help ensure all field personnel follow safe installation practices. 
• Maintain a clean and organized work area. 

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Valid Massachusetts electrical license required.
• Minimum of 3+ years of electrical, controls, or building automation installation experience preferred. 
• Hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems, DDC controls, HVAC controls, access controls, security systems, or similar low-voltage systems. 
• Experience installing conduit and pulling, terminating, and troubleshooting low-voltage wiring. 
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, controls drawings, and mechanical plans. 
• Familiarity with common BAS field devices including controllers, relays, sensors, actuators, current switches, and control panels. 
• Strong working knowledge of safe electrical installation practices. 
• Ability to troubleshoot field wiring and installation issues independently. 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Ability to lead and coordinate other field personnel. 
• Strong reliability, follow-through, discretion, and integrity. 
• Ability to work effectively with project managers, programmers, technicians, customers, and other trades. 
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience serving as a Lead Installer, Lead Controls Technician, Controls Electrician, or Foreman . 
• Commercial HVAC controls or BAS installation experience. 
• Experience with Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, or similar BAS platforms. 
• Familiarity with BACnet networks and BAS communication wiring. 
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. 
• MEWP / aerial lift certification. 
• Experience with BuildOps or similar field-service/project-management software. 
• Experience supporting startup and commissioning of BAS systems. 
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment and controls applications.

Work Environment

This is a field-based position supporting commercial projects throughout the region.

The role may require:

• Working indoors and outdoors 
• Working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, ceilings, and active construction areas 
• Working from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts 
• Occasional schedule flexibility based on project needs 
• Travel between job sites as required 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. 
• Ability to climb ladders and stairs. 
• Ability to work from scaffolding and aerial lifts. 
• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined or elevated spaces. 
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and occasional inclement weather. 
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
