The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) is a Tribal health care organization serving nearly 30,000 people across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Position Summary Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, the position provides a variety of village-based substance use assessments, crisis stabilization, case management, screenings, and rehabilitation services consistent with education, training, and experience. Responsibilities Provide village-based substance use assessments, crisis stabilization, case management, screenings, and rehabilitation services under supervision of a licensed clinician. Collaborate with clinical staff to develop and implement care plans for individuals and families within the community. Document intake, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other required records in accordance with program policies. Coordinate referrals to other services and community resources as needed. Engage with clients using culturally appropriate practices and communication methods. Qualifications Minimum Education: High school or GED equivalent. Commitment to advancing through a certification program. Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the field of Community Services (volunteer work may be counted if documented). Demonstrates mature judgment and ability to communicate, retrieve, and present data verbally, in writing, and electronically. Must be flexible with work schedule and able to work independently within prescribed limits. License, Certifications, Registration: May develop with supervisor a plan to obtain Substance Abuse Counselor certification. Must partner with supervisor to advance to BHA-I certification. Must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 180 hours toward a specialized BHA-I training program and a 100-hour clinical practicum under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician. Equipment/Tools: Computer skills; good telephone etiquette; good verbal and written communication skills; bilingual Yup’ik/English/Regional preferred. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of communication skills and motivation for learning in behavioral health counseling; ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to learn counseling skills through in-service training; ability to effectively present information; ability to follow and carry out detailed but simple written or oral instructions; ability to work through problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
