House Supervisor (RN) - Night Shift

Vernon Health is seeking a Registered Nurse House Supervisor to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight during overnight hours. This role is ideal for a nursing professional who excels in decision‑making, patient care coordination, staff support, and hospital operations. As the onsite nursing and administrative leader during assigned shifts, the House Supervisor ensures safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care while supporting staff, resolving operational challenges, and maintaining continuity of care across all departments. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and oversight of hospital operations during assigned shifts. Serve as the liaison between patient care units, physicians, leadership, and support departments. Coordinate nursing activities and ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and clinical standards. Conduct routine rounds on patient care units to assess staffing, patient care needs, and resource availability. Monitor staffing levels, attendance, and schedule adjustments to ensure safe patient care coverage. Serve as a clinical resource and provide hands‑on patient care support as needed, including responding to emergencies and assisting with complex patient situations. Investigate, document, and address patient, family, visitor, and provider concerns while promoting effective communication and conflict resolution. Support risk management, infection prevention, safety initiatives, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance. Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational effectiveness. Assist with orientation, staff development, competency validation, and ongoing education activities. Communicate nursing service activities, staffing concerns, and significant events to Nursing Leadership. Serve as the hospital administrative representative during nights, weekends, holidays, and in the absence of department managers or directors. Required Qualifications Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license. Current CPR/BLS certification. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Minimum two years of hospital‑based nursing experience strongly preferred. Strong leadership, communication, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and make timely decisions in a fast‑paced environment. PALS, NRP, and TNCC certifications obtained within 18 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Knowledge & Skills Successful candidates will demonstrate: Exceptional leadership and team‑building abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and assist with transferring patients, including lifting up to 50 pounds and supporting heavier transfers with appropriate assistive devices. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and movement throughout the shift. Ability to communicate effectively and assess environmental and patient safety concerns. Work is performed in a hospital setting with potential exposure to infectious agents and hazardous medications.
