Grounds Keeper

Maintains golf course by mowing, trimming, and edging turf areas, prepping golf course for use, assisting in maintaining irrigation systems, providing landscaping as assigned, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, while adhering to the scheduled maintenance. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Under the general supervision of the Golf Superintendent; assists in the training of all employees or volunteers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains the City of Copperas Cove Hills of Cove Golf course by mowing grass, weed‑eating, edging, trimming trees, and irrigation repair. Assist with tournament setup and tear down, including range maintenance. The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude. Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department. Must be able to follow directions. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. Ability to effectively communicate and work with citizens who may have complaints on services provided. Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function. PERIPHERAL DUTIES Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned. Good communication skills. Other Duties as assigned. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Six (6) months of landscaping experience. Working knowledge of lawn mowers/tractors and hand tools. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License by date of hire. Probable shift work due to evening and weekend events. Job location will vary due to seasonal sports. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and procedures of golf etiquette and events as they relate to grounds maintenance operations. Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds and/or turf maintenance. Ability to have basic computer skills and ability to operate field maintenance equipment. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and general public. SELECTION GUIDELINES Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview, reference check, job related tests may be required, pre‑employment drug tests. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Pickup truck; lawn/turf and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, acidifiers/aeration equipment, chain saw, edger's, backflows, weed trimmers, trailers, backhoe, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; Miscellaneous hand and power tools for lawn maintenance. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The work environment is noisy and distracting with multiple areas that need attention to detail.
