Fleet Manager — Amazon Delivery Service Partner (80+ Vehicle Fleet)

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are an independent, locally owned Amazon Delivery Service Partner (the "Company") based in Sterling Heights, Michigan, operating a fleet of more than 80 delivery vehicles — Ford Transits, Ram ProMasters, step vans, and Rivian electric delivery vans — that put 100+ drivers on the road across Macomb and Oakland County every day.

We are hiring a Fleet Manager to own the health, availability, and cost of that fleet. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a desk job. You will spend your day between the yard, the fleet software, the phone with our mobile mechanics and repair shops, and the dispatch office — making sure every route that needs a van has one that is safe, road-ready, and compliant.

The right person has managed a fleet of this size (or close to it) before, is comfortable turning a wrench on the small stuff, and knows how to keep vendors, repair orders, and vehicle status organized when 80+ vehicles are cycling in and out of service.

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the Company and build the fleet program as we scale.

PAY & BENEFITS

• $25.00 – $30.00 per hour , based on experience, paid weekly
• Overtime paid at 1.5x your regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek, in accordance with federal and Michigan law

SCHEDULE

• Full-time, on-site at our Sterling Heights station
• Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• One weekend day of availability is expected on a rotating basis; the fleet runs seven days a week
• Must be reachable by phone for road-call breakdowns during operating hours, with a rotation for after-hours escalation

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Fleet Availability & Daily Operations

• Own the daily vehicle count: know which vans are road-ready, grounded, in the shop, or due for service before dispatch builds the board each morning
• Manage vehicle groundings — pull unsafe vehicles from service, document the reason, and drive them back to road-ready status as quickly as possible
• Coordinate with dispatchers and operations managers on vehicle assignments, swaps, and rentals when the active fleet is short
• Manage rental vehicle activity (pickup, return, damage documentation, and billing review) with rental partners such as Enterprise and Kingbee

Breakdowns & Repairs

• Serve as first call for on-road breakdowns: triage the issue, determine next steps (roadside fix, tow, mobile mechanic, or shop), and get the driver and route covered
• Schedule and manage mobile mechanics and outside repair shops; hold vendors accountable for turnaround times, quality, and pricing
• Open, update, and close repair orders in fleet software with accurate notes, costs, parts, and completion dates
• Review repair estimates and invoices for accuracy and challenge charges that are excessive or unsupported
• Manage warranty, recall, and lease-return repair requirements and approvals

Hands-On Light Mechanical Work

• Perform light mechanical and cosmetic repairs in-house to keep vans on the road and reduce shop costs, including: replacing bulbs and lights, mirrors and mirror glass, backup cameras and camera wiring, wiper blades, fuses, batteries, and similar components
• Replace, rotate, and change tires; check and correct tire pressure; identify tires due for replacement
• Perform basic fluid checks and top-offs, and identify issues that need to go to a mechanic
• Maintain an organized shop area, tools, and parts inventory

Fleet Software, Compliance & Reporting

• Use fleet management and telematics software (e.g., Geotab, Netradyne, DVIC/inspection platforms, and fleet maintenance software) to track vehicle status, mileage, maintenance intervals, and repair history
• Ensure preventive maintenance is scheduled and completed on time across the entire fleet
• Follow up on driver vehicle inspection (DVIC/DVIR) defects daily and close them out
• Maintain accurate vehicle records: registrations, insurance cards, inspections, VIN lists, plates, and Amazon vehicle compliance requirements
• Track and report fleet KPIs — availability rate, repair spend per vehicle, downtime, vendor turnaround — and present them to management weekly
• Support accident and damage reporting: photograph damage, gather documentation, and coordinate with insurance and Amazon claims processes

Forecasting & Planning

• Work with operations and management to forecast fleet needs by week and by season — knowing when we need more vans, rentals, or replacements before the shortage hits
• Recommend vehicle rotation, retirement, and replacement based on age, mileage, and repair history
• Help build and manage the annual fleet maintenance and repair budget

REQUIREMENTS

• 3+ years of experience managing a commercial fleet of 50+ vehicles (delivery, logistics, rental, utility, or similar), with last-mile or DSP experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience managing mobile mechanics and outside repair shops, including negotiating estimates and holding vendors to deadlines
• Proficiency with fleet management, maintenance, or telematics software (Geotab, Fleetio, Samsara, or comparable); ability to learn new platforms quickly
• Ability to perform the light mechanical work listed above — lights, mirrors, backup cameras, tires, batteries, and similar; you don't need to be a certified mechanic, but you need to be comfortable doing this work yourself
• Strong organizational skills: repair orders, vehicle status, and vendor follow-ups need to be current and accurate every day
• Ability to communicate clearly with drivers, dispatchers, managers, and vendors, in person and in writing
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Must hold a valid, unrestricted driver's license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record; you will be driving and moving fleet vehicles regularly
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening (which does not include testing for marijuana) and a background check, conducted in accordance with applicable law
• Must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the job — lifting and mounting tires and parts weighing up to 70 lbs., working outdoors in all weather conditions, bending, kneeling, and working under and around vehicles — with or without reasonable accommodation

PREFERRED (NOT REQUIRED)

• ASE certification or formal automotive/diesel training
• Experience with electric delivery vehicles (Rivian EDV) or step vans
• Experience with lease-return vehicle programs and damage/wear standards
• Experience building or improving a preventive maintenance program from the ground up

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

• Every route that needs a van has a safe, compliant van every morning
• Grounded vehicles are back on the road faster, and the reason each one was grounded is documented
• Repair spend goes down because small fixes happen in-house and vendor invoices are reviewed, not rubber-stamped
• Management knows next month's fleet position today, not the day the shortage hits
