Truck Driver

Job Description

A Lowboy Driver is responsible for safely transporting heavy construction equipment and materials using a lowboy trailer. This role requires both driving skills and the ability to perform manual labor, often in challenging conditions.

Core Responsibilities

Operating the vehicle: Drive a Class A truck/trailer to deliver oversized, overweight, or heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, crushers, fuel tanks, and other machinery.

Loading/unloading: Safely load and unload equipment using ramps, winches, chains, and binders; secure loads in compliance with DOT and company safety regulations.

Route planning & compliance: Follow permit routes for oversized/overweight loads, adhere to traffic laws, and meet delivery schedules.

Pre/post-trip inspections: Conduct daily inspections of the truck, trailer, and load, document findings, and maintain DOT-compliant logs.

Maintenance: Perform minor service and maintenance; keep the truck clean and in order.

Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate delivery logs, trip reports, and equipment records.

Teamwork & safety: Work with crews, follow OSHA/MSHA safety rules, and participate in safety training and toolbox talks. Adhere to company safety policies.

Miscellaneous duties: Assist in training new drivers, perform general labor, and complete other assignments as needed.

Work Environment

Operate in all weather and road conditions, including rural and urban areas.

May work nights, weekends, or overtime depending on project needs.

Frequent climbing on/off equipment and trailers and lifting/pushing heavy loads.

Key Skills & Requirements

Valid Class A CDL with clean record; 2+ years experience hauling heavy or lowboy equipment.

Ability to pass DOT drug/alcohol tests, background checks, and physicals.

Effective communication, attention to detail, and safety-conscious attitude.
