Health Services Assistant

MSAD 6 is seeking a Health Services Assistant to join its nursing and instructional staff at Bonny Eagle High School. Qualifications include current licensure/certification as a medical assistant or nurse assistant, a criminal history record check, current certification in First Aid and CPR/AED, pediatric and adolescent experience, a prior successful work record, demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member, added experience in public health care and/or school health care, knowledge of health care methods and practices, pediatric and adolescent health conditions, basic concepts of child growth and development, record management systems and procedures, ability to create a caring health clinic climate, assist students in effectively dealing with health issues, work collaboratively under the direction of the school nurse, communicate effectively, carry out data entry, provide administrative support, and perform other related functions as directed by the registered nurse.

Job goal: Under the direction of the school nurse, the Health Services Assistant will provide health care services to the students in MSAD 6. This position recognizes and meets basic student needs in routine health care situations; assists the registered nurse in the delivery of school health programs; implements care as directed by the registered nurse; functions as an assistant to the registered nurse; participates in evaluation of care; follows student health plans; and performs other related functions as directed by the registered nurse.

Responsibilities include delivering and following daily student health care, complying with all applicable district policies, providing direct health care to medically fragile or nursing-dependent students, communicating with instructional staff, monitoring students in various settings, implementing student health care plans and emergency care plans, participating in ongoing communication with the registered nurse, assisting in the monitoring of individual student health goals, assisting with maintaining program continuity, being knowledgeable of emergency procedures and communicable disease concerns, reporting outcomes of care, conducting vision and hearing screenings, providing support in identifying and reporting suspected cases of abuse/neglect, participating in health-promoting prevention/intervention efforts, assisting with student health screenings, maintaining accurate and current records, supporting behavior intervention plans, coordinating 504 meetings, maintaining health clinic supplies, and carrying out all other office duties as directed by the registered nurse.

Essential functions include sitting and standing for extended periods, walking, running on occasion, using hands and fingers, talking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms, squatting, stooping or kneeling, reaching above the head and forward, moving between district locations, having a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance, effectively communicating accurate information, specific vision abilities, and some lifting of students up to 50 pounds.

Work conditions include working indoors, meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, and interacting with the public. Work year includes student school year with two additional professional development days and five additional health office administrative days. Wage and benefits are hourly, set by the bargaining agreement with an hourly wage range $22.25 - $27.84, based on a six and a half hour day. EOE
