Anderson Academy serves children and adolescents receiving behavioral health and psychiatric residential treatment services. Many of our students have experienced trauma, educational disruptions, and significant life challenges. Position Summary

The General Education Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based instruction within a therapeutic educational environment. The teacher works collaboratively with residential, clinical, and educational staff to support students' academic progress, behavioral success, and overall treatment goals.

Teachers at Anderson Academy help students reconnect with learning while building confidence, resilience, self-management skills, and a positive vision for their future.

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning

• Develop and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons aligned with student academic needs and educational goals.
• Create daily, weekly, and long-range instructional plans.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
• Utilize assessments, classroom data, and progress monitoring tools to inform instruction.
• Develop and maintain emergency lesson plans to ensure continuity of instruction.
• Foster a classroom culture that promotes respect, accountability, growth, and belonging.
• Support students in developing executive functioning, organization, self-regulation, and problem-solving skills.
• Provide individualized or small-group academic support when needed.
• Maintain appropriate classroom structure, routines, and expectations.

Student Support & Behavioral Health Collaboration

• Develop positive and therapeutic relationships with students through consistent engagement and support.
• Implement trauma-informed and relationship-based practices throughout the school day.
• Promote positive behavioral interventions and help students develop healthy coping skills.
• Collaborate with therapists, residential staff, mentors, and treatment teams to support student success.
• Assist with crisis prevention, de-escalation, and therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
• Model professional behavior, emotional regulation, and effective communication.
• Participate in the campus-wide relationship-based philosophy of care.

Educational Records & Documentation

• Maintain accurate educational records and student documentation.
• Complete required reports, progress summaries, report cards, and educational updates within designated timeframes.
• Assist with educational transition planning and the transfer of records between Anderson Academy and community schools.
• Update student educational files and maintain required documentation related to educational services.
• Support compliance with educational standards, policies, and agency requirements.

Team Collaboration

• Actively participate in staff meetings, treatment team meetings, Child and Family Team meetings, discharge planning meetings, and other interdisciplinary meetings as assigned.
• Collaborate with families, guardians, school districts, and community partners to support student success.
• Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain open communication with school administration and leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to provide instruction, classroom management, and positive student engagement.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment environment.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and model positive behavior.
• Ability to successfully complete all required training and agency requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• North Carolina Teaching License.
• Eligibility for North Carolina educator licensure or residency licensure.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
• Exceptional Children (EC) Certification.
• Experience supporting students with IEPs, emotional and behavioral needs, or learning differences.
• Experience teaching in alternative education, residential treatment, behavioral health, or therapeutic educational settings.
• Experience using trauma-informed educational practices.
• Experience collaborating with families, clinical teams, and community partners.
