Research Engineer II

The purpose of this position is to execute engineering research and development project assignments that support the Advanced Structures and Composites Center’s (ASCC) mission of advancing material science, advanced manufacturing, and engineering of composites and structures. This role involves designing and conducting experimental test campaigns, analyzing data, and developing innovative solutions for real-world engineering challenges. The position requires proficiency in numerical modeling, CAD/CAE development, and programming to enhance research capabilities in large-scale additive manufacturing, transportation infrastructure, and advanced materials. Additionally, the role contributes to the preparation of technical reports, research proposals, and presentations while fostering collaboration with research staff and mentoring undergraduate researchers. By staying current with emerging technologies and industry advancements, this position plays a critical role in driving innovation and maintaining ASCC’s leadership in interdisciplinary research. Qualifications: Required: * BS in Mechanical, MET, or Structural Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three to five years of professional experience.
  • Advanced coursework or equivalent experience in some of the following areas:
advanced composites, finite element modeling, engineering design, advanced mechanics of materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and constant deadlines in a
fast-paced environment. Preferred:
  • MS in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience in conducting static and dynamic laboratory load tests of
composites.
  • Experience in student research
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory or shop environment.
