Medical Assistant

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in a specialty outpatient clinic focused on stroke and cognitive care patients. This role involves patient rooming, exam room setup, managing prior authorizations for medications and referrals, chart preparation, in-basket management, and patient communication. The Medical Assistant must effectively prioritize tasks, work independently, and support multiple providers while maintaining a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:

• Room patients and prepare exam rooms for visits.
• Manage in-basket communications and patient phone calls.
• Prepare patient charts and handle medication and procedure prior authorizations.
• Coordinate outgoing referrals, including obtaining prior authorizations for specialties such as Cardiology.
• Support multiple providers, serving as the sole Medical Assistant in the clinic at times.
• Assist patients with physical handicaps as needed.
• Maintain organization and prioritize a diverse workload independently.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) or Registered Medical Assistant (MA-R) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working in adult outpatient clinics, preferably with disabled adults.
• Proficiency with healthcare terminology and Epic electronic medical record system.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment without physical limitations.
• Reliable transportation for commuting.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in cognitive care or stroke specialty clinics.
• Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs as required.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to alternate shifts between 07:30-16:00 and 08:00-16:30 as scheduled.
• No on-call requirements.
• Must be open to a temp-to-perm opportunity, completing a 13-week contract before potential full-time hire.
• Must confirm availability for scheduled interviews; no call/no show will result in disqualification.
• Must have no physical limitations preventing assistance to patients with disabilities.

Scheduling:

• Five 8-hour day shifts per week with alternating start times between 07:30 and 08:00.
• Shift assignment depends on clinic scheduling and provider coverage.
• No weekend or on-call shifts required.
