Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist Profession: Speech-Language Pathology Specialty: Communication Disorders Duration: 184-day work year Shift: Day Hours Per Shift: Part-time, 21 hours per week Experience: Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders License: Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for speech-language pathology Certifications: ASHA Certification CCC-SLP (or working toward CCC-SLP through CF Process) Must-Have: Valid Illinois driver's license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle Description: The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide speech and language services to students with developmental and/or physical disabilities in classroom settings. As part of the educational team, the Speech-Language Pathologist will help design communication systems for students. The Speech-Language Pathologist will work collaboratively with the classroom team to support the educational needs of the students across the curriculum. Planning and Preparation: Organizes a program that addresses local school speech-language goals. Works cooperatively with school personnel to establish and accomplish the goals and objectives of the education agency. Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other personnel. Maintains records of the speech-language program and prepares periodic reports as required. Maintains current files and data for program planning and decision-making for students. Completes procedural documentation appropriately. Develops appropriate IEPs based on students' strengths and needs. Selects and implements evidence-based practices which support the goals and objectives of the speech and language program. Classroom Environment: Establishes and maintains orderly classroom behavior on an individual or group basis. Arranges therapy environment to create optimum learning conditions. Manages the facilities, materials, and equipment necessary to the delivery of services. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Instruction: Assesses students' communication skills to identify communication disorders and determine program eligibility. Conducts speech and language screenings and/or classroom observations to determine the need for interventions. Provides speech and language therapy to students to minimize adverse effects of speech and language disorders on success. Provides research-based interventions as appropriate as a component of the MTSS process. Implements the service delivery model most appropriate to the students' degree of severity. Provides activities that align with students' interests and aptitudes. Modifies therapeutic instructional approaches based on data gathered during therapy. Professional Responsibilities: Provides consultation to parents, teachers, and other appropriate personnel. Seeks assistance from teachers, parents, and others to meet the communication needs of students. Consults with non-school agencies to enhance services. Manages time efficiently. Meets accepted standards of professional behavior. Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language-hearing and education. Exhibits professionalism and commitment through punctuality and attendance. Performs other duties as assigned by administration. Demonstrates the ability to perform physical tasks associated with the job. Demonstrates the ability to utilize necessary technology tools available, including web-based data systems.
