Overall Job Summary This position is responsible for enrolling & completing the training course Level 1 provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing. Paragon is a virtual distant learning program where students are guided through a 15-week training program designed to educate students on the fundamentals of bathing and grooming, while also providing the necessary basic skills in safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling skills, dog anatomy and dog physiology. This is achieved through a combination of hands-on practice, book work, online exams, watching videos, and submitting photos of practical application for grading. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs. Support selling initiatives (TEAM): Thank the Customer Engage with the customer and/or pet Advise on products or services Make it Memorable Groom Technicians in Training are required to learn & perform a combination of duties throughout their training program, including: Successfully enroll & complete the Paragon training for Level 1 (Groom Tech) within five weeks. Safe Pet Handling Bathing, Drying, Brushing, and Combing all coat types Nail Trimming Ear Cleaning Preparatory Hair Trimming Basic Clipper Techniques Basic Finishing Techniques Customer Service Skills Demonstrating Professionalism Equipment Handling and Maintenance Ensuring the safety and well-being of animals Inspecting animals for external signs of parasites, disease, or injury and reporting findings to pet owners Practicing Safety and Sanitization protocols Sanitizing and maintaining grooming tools and equipment Assisting in generating business through calls, scheduling, follow-ups, and vaccination verification Maintaining records of pet clients and services Operating computer systems as needed Store recovery if needed Ensuring the safety of live animals and maintaining their care areas Completing all related documentation Qualifications and Skills Experience working with dogs and cats; patience and compassion required Must provide or be willing to purchase grooming tools (clippers, blades, shears) High school diploma or equivalent required; ability to read, write, and count accurately Operate all grooming tools and equipment effectively Effective communication skills Attention to detail and problem-solving skills Basic computer skills Working Conditions Indoor environment with moderate noise Exposure to grooming equipment, pet waste, and wet conditions Work shifts typically from 4 to over 8 hours Physical Requirements Ability to move and transfer animals and equipment up to 50 pounds Stand for extended periods Operate grooming instruments and perform physical tasks such as bending and kneeling Disclaimer This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and is not exhaustive.
